I took the tour of the southwest of the island with Sailen, a prudent driver and a trained and passionate guide.
He was kind and punctual in explaining all the highlights to me and thanks to him the tour was very interesting.
I thought the tour would last longer, not just 4 hours, since I paid 100€: we didn't visit the boat factory and Black River Gorges so it seemed expensive for what it offered.

The first red flag should have been when what I was quoted via email was different to what they were quoting on their website. Anyway I let that slide and booked a car/driver for the day. The night before I emailed (Carine) to confirm a few things on our proposed itinerary and was suddenly told that these things would incur an additional charge. I questioned why I should have to pay more to do particular activities when I am renting the car/driver for the same amount of time and did not get a clear answer so cancelled the booking. While very inconvenient it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we rented a car the next day which was a lot cheaper and Mauritius roads are very good.

We arranged a full day private tour including hindu temple, waterfall, seven coloured earth, Port Lois and SSR Botanical Gardens.
Our driver and tour guide Ibrahim was brilliant, full of knowledge and made the day so informative.
We were collected at 9am and got back to our hotel around 6pm after visiting everywhere we had requested.
I would thoroughly recommend Destination Soleil, Carine responded to all emails promptly and made the booking process so easy. We thought the price was excellent value for money and the vehicle was modern, clean and nothing was to much trouble for Ibrahim.
Thank you for a magical day

We are a family with two young children. I arranged two tours before we went via email. Carine, responded extremely quickly and was very helpful. I was a little worried to begin with as booking before hand sometimes is not the best thing to do. However, it was definitely worth it. Whilst there, we also decided to book another trip and emailed from the hotel. Again, Carine responded efficiently and rearranged the other tours so that we could get the most from them all due to days.
We had three different drivers, Sailin, Ibrahim and Rudy. All drivers were punctual and were very good drivers with clean cars. We requested a booster seat which was offered free of charge. If a second one was required then there would be a charge of 200 rupees.
Sailin was very knowledgable and kind. Our children really enjoyed his company and still talk about their day. He took us around Pampelmousse gardens and gave us lots of information. He even gave us some tips about the mosquito bites we had- thank you! He was very helpful walking around in the market and found us a nice place to have a picnic.
Ibrahim took us to Casella, he helped us through the gates and double checked that we had everything organised. He waited for us to take us back. He was very friendly and again, my children talk about how nice he was.
Rudy helped us on the north tour. Punctual and gave us lots of information whilst driving around.
I would thoroughly recommend this company. They are great value, and very helpful and knowledgable. Superb service from emailing and organising to the actual tours.
Do not hesitate to book before you go. The personal service was just amazing. Payment was made on the first tour.

These guys are brilliant. My husband found the company on Tripadvisor and we booked them for our transfer from the airport to our hotel on the north peninsula. The company charged us less than half what the hotel wanted.
We were picked up by Sailen who was waiting for us when we landed. Apart from being a lovely chap he also had great knowledge of the island and pointed out lots of things of interest on the way to the hotel.
When we enquired about a tour he gave us a brochure with various options. We booked a transfer to Caesela wildlife park with Shailen through a hassle free email exchange with Carine. You can also pay through PayPal if you are running low on cash.
Shailen was brilliant. He even took us to the local supermarket so I could get some Mauritian curry powder and rum! We enjoyed hearing about the island so much from Shailen that we booked a 3rd private tour of the south of the island for our last day. This time we had Roudy who was also brilliant. We visited the most beautiful places such as Black River Gorge, the Charamel waterfall and the seven coloured sands. We were taken to a lovely family run local restaurant for lunch; it looks a bit shabby but the food was incredible.
Highly professional and personalised service.

We used this company for airport transfer and a tour of the south. They are under taximauritius for their website. When contacting them, Carine was always quick to respond and politely answered my million questions. Our drivers to and from the airport were very polite and friendly. Answering the million questions we had. They were kind enough as well to take us to the supermarket to pick up some supplies for our stay.
We then decided to take the authentic tour of the south. Our tour guide Hans was amazing. We had a private car for the day where Hans took us around to see the sites and explain the history of the island. His knowledge and fun attitude was a pleasure to be around for the day. I would highly recommend him for this tour. He took us to a local place for lunch and the food was awesome. Would recommend Carine and her team at Destination Soleil / Taximauritius for sure. Prices are super reasonable and some of the better prices you'll get on the island.

I picked Destination Soleil based on the wonderful reviews on Tripadvisor and initially, I was not disappointed. Carine responded extremely quickly to my email and provided plenty of information about the tours on offer. I chose to book airport pickups both ways to my hotel , the north tour and then later, the south tour.
The driver who picked us up from the airport was Dolane and he was very helpful, especially at the airport, showing us where to change our money. He brought us along the coast road to our hotel, which is very windy and we ended up getting a bit car sick, so he stopped and let us get out and walk to clear our heads. There is another way to our hotel, mostly on highway, so we chose that route on the return leg. Dolane talked almost the whole way to the hoteL – around an hour – and informed us of the history of the island and pointed out historical items along the route.
Our driver for the tour of the north of the island was Roudy and he was extremely knowledgeable, having been in the tourism industry for over 25 years. His English was great and we discovered he was also fluent in German, and specialized in tours for German-speaking tourists. We visited Port Louis and the Botanic Gardens at Pamplemousses. Roudy was an excellent guide and knew the names of all the trees in the Botanical Gardens. He also showed us the first church in the island
.
We had lunch in Pamplemousses at a lovely, Mauritian restaurant called Langouste D’Oree, which is better known as Chez Jockey, due to the owner’s small stature! The food was fantastic in there – we were shown a platter of fish, giant prawns and lobster and we picked the fish and prawns, which were beautifully cooked and came with a variety of delicious curry sauces on the side. We probably should have checked the prices of all these items before we agreed to them, because when the bill came, we were shocked at the high cost of it all. The meal was delicious, but the price was the same as was being charged at our five star hotel, and Chez Jockey was not a five star restaurant. So obviously there is some kind of collusion between the tour company and the restaurant to bring tourists there, with a cut of the profit going to the tour company. We noticed that all the other patrons were tourists, accompanied by their drivers. This kind of activity goes on all over the world, but obvious rip-offs upset tourists and this arrangement was not appreciated by us. Chez Jockey was a delightful place, the food was good and we met Jockey and he seemed like a lovely person, but the prices need to be modified to a more reasonable rate. We were able to eat lunch at the luxury Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel in Port Louis for less than we paid at Chez Jockey.
Another day we took the south tour, again with Roudy, because we liked him. We visited the Hindu temple, saw the reservoir, a waterfall and some beautiful scenery. We found out that we would be passing by the Chamarel distillery, so asked to stop there as well. Roudy was not able to make this decision without checking with Carine. We told him that we would pay the entrance fee ourselves, but after conversing with Carine, she charged us not just the entrance fee, but an additional amount as well, with some explanation of how Roudy would do the tour instead of the persons at the distillery. Not sure how that worked, since if we walked in there and bought our own tickets ourselves, we would have received a tour by the people working there including in the entry charge. So by going with Roudy, it ended up costing us more. Lunch that day was in another supposedly Mauritian restaurant near the distillery. Again it was full of tourists, brought there by their drivers and again it was way overpriced, but this time the food wasn’t that good. So it was certainly a rip-off. We felt a bit annoyed by this stage.
Later we found out that we could hire a driver for the day outside our hotel for much less than was being charged for a day by Destination Soleil. We didn’t get the same patter, but we got to go wherever we wanted, and to eat wherever we wanted.
So, the bottom line is that although we thought this was a very professional organization and we very much liked the drivers we had, especially Roudy, the lunch situation on both days left us with a bit of a bad taste. If we could choose our own restaurant, that wasn’t approved by Destination Soleil, or if the restaurants used had more reasonable prices, we would use this company again, but as it stands, we will probably just use taxi services when we next come to Mauritius.

I booked a tour through Destination Soleil to the South Islands of Mauritius. This company was strongly recommended through Tripadvisor so I had high hopes of a successful day. On the positive side, my interactions with Carine were smooth, prompt and professional. I like that she called the driver after our tour to check in and make sure everything was on schedule. She was definitely on top of what was scheduled for us which was comforting. When we first connected she offered several options one of which was a tour of the South Islands and snorkeling on Blue Bay. I was traveling alone with my teenage daughter and wanted to be on a group tour, not alone in a taxi driving around the island. The South Island tour was listed as a "group tour" but when the van came to pick us up at the hotel it was a single taxi and we were the only participants. We drove to the public beach at Blue Bay where I expected we would get on a boat with others. Not the case...we ended up on a very old, somewhat dilapidated snorkeling type boat which could hold 15 people but instead was me, my daughter and a captain. My daughter was nervous and did not want to go but I told her not to worry. The reality though is I can't believe I was silly enough to put us into this type of situation. Fortunately our boat captain was a lovely man, he took us to three islands most of which were deserted and had old army ruins on them. He cooked us lunch on a hibachi on an island with a lighthouse. We were told this was the top of the line tour and it was in fact the most expensive tour offered at 7400 rupee. While he did a great job with the food and everything was good it wasn't what we expected. The drinks were offered in these blue plastic cups that I don't think were washed with anything but salt water for the last year. For two complete germ-o-phobes it was a challenge. At the end of the day it was a unique experience and our captain/guide worked really hard but being alone on an island was not really what we expected. Before we headed back we went snorkeling in Marine Park in Blue Bay and that was pretty spectacular. We then were switched to a glass bottom boat for a 30 minute ride before heading back to the public beach in Blue Bay where our taxi driver was waiting to pick us up. We had to change and use the public bathroom which was pretty disgusting as the bathroom was basically a hole in the floor. I think that Desination Soleil is still a good option but I should have asked more questions on what we were actually getting.

Just back from a wonderful 7 day holiday at Mauritius. Right from landing on this lovely island to our departure Destination Soleil made a huge difference to making this a memorable holiday.
We were travelling as a family of 7 with the youngest member at 8 years and oldest of 77 years. When I saw references for Dest. Soleil on Trip Advisor I requested for a quote for airport transfer I was presently surprised to see their charges much lower than what our highly rated resort's operator had quoted. We were greeted at the airport by their driver Pritam - who eventually became our chaperone for the entire trip and made a huge difference. We had a Toyota Hiace on all days and the group was comfortable in all the cross island journeys.
Since we had very little planned before landing other than printouts on all Mauritius attractions, we listed down what all of us were keen on doing. My wife put a call to Dest Soleil late evening and requested for advise on how to cover these places and activities. In an hour, Carine had responded in detail on email with the quotes and itineraries. After just one round of refinement, our entire plan for the week ahead was well-charted.
Responsiveness, attention to detail, punctuality and warmth is what we experienced with Dest.Soleil. And all at very decent prices when I compared with similar online quotes.
Just like Pritam with whom we were impressed, I see that other reviewers have praised their drivers as well. I guess this is the culture of this company and makes all the difference.
I have no hesitation in highly recommending Dest Soleil to all interested for transfers and local tour planning in Mauritius.

Hi,
I am visiting Mauritius from the 25th March until 29th March. I would like to know if you hire out Taxis for the entire day or part of a day at a fixed rate and we do touring to a variety of sites for that day.
Please advise and also if you have suggested itineraries then this would be most helpful to decide how many days we need to hire for.
Thanks.
