A very well stocked gallery with unusual items made and painted by local artists. it was easy to find something to take home, and will revisit again, cant believe we have been in this area many times and missed this treasure. Helpful staff who served us with home made cakes and drinks to our taste. Cottages attached to rent and dogs welcome in a lovely setting and very well furnished. looking forward to our next visit.

Been to Thorntwaite Gallery now every time we visit the lakes. The paintings and wood carvings are exquisite we've spent hours browsing and the coffee, scones and cakes are simply excellent

Very poor toasted sandwich. Overpriced and poor quality ingredients. How can you get it so wrong.
Approx £8 for two slices of white thin bread with very little filling. It did not warrant the price charged. Need to improve the quality to be competitive with other establishments in the area. A shame as the gallery is a lovely little place but quite a trek to be served substandard food in the tea room. Sorry but will not have food here again.

Just recently returned from a breath taking trip to the Lakes District of England. Was able to spend some time at the Thornthwaite Galleries and Teashop in Thornthwaite near Kenswick. The owner, Oliver, prides himself in show casing local artisans including sweeping oil paintings of the nearby landscape, handmade jewelry, hand carved wood pieces like exquisite lamps, tables and unusual furniture pieces. You could look all day and never see all the treasures. Allow yourself to sit and enjoy afternoon tea with delectable homemade deserts uuuuummmmhhhhh! (His mother makes a lot of them and I tasted several during my visit - they were all a treat. If you have enough time and plan ahead book one of the Mews Cottages housed in a 200 year old barn. Unfortunately they were booked the week I was there. I hope to return with my family because there are three well appointed cottages that open to the most beautiful, restful gardens. It will be perfect for a holiday . Do not miss this treasure....worth the -visit!

Whilst I can't comment on the mews cottages, the Gallery at Thornthwaite is well worth visiting, with a range of excellent artworks on sale and display - from paintings, photos, sketches to elaboratly carved and sculpted objects. As an added bonus, we were able to get a simple but perfectly acceptable lunch there

We have stayed in these cottages on approximately 7 occasions now at different times of the year.
The cottages are beautifully presented with a modern interior.
The village itself is quiet and peaceful (which we like) and there are stunning views of the hills from the cottages. Thornthwaite is a short drive away to Keswick town centre and very close to Derwentwater, Whinlatter and Catbells - which are amazing places to visit.
The owners are lovely and friendly people and are one of the reasons why we choose to return here time after time.
We love the gallery above the cottages and often pop in on an afternoon after a morning hike to have afternoon tea or a cake from their delicious selection.
Can't wait to return again.

Fabulous weather, great walking, rounded off with a trip to the Wool Festival at Cockermouth! It was amazing to discover the Lakes had better weather than Bath but we were very glad not to be wearing wet weather gear. The cottages that look out onto Skiddaw didnt disappoint and are dog friendly, so we all had a great time. The gallery over the top of the cottages has a wonderful selection of very talented local artists work and my friend bought a stunning piece of fused glass. Will be booking again for next year!

3 cottages are on the lower floor leading outside to established secure gardens, perfect for children and pets. The upper floor (approached from the rear so independent) is a well stocked gallery with tearoom. The cottage that we occupied, Elderberry, was well appointed with all you could need for a comfortable stay. The twin bedroom is a little small but more than adequate. We as a group of 4 adults plus dog were made welcome and would not hesitate to revisit.
