A beautiful beach - once. Because now it is trashed with huts that play loud party music and heaps of garbage in the canyon. There are tires, matrasses, barrels, plastic cans,... it is truly heartbreaking. The hike from the parking lot at the canyon rim is beautiful though. It is steep but has great views. Park at P1 (it is free of charge and the trail from there has more and better views than from P2). Do NOT drive all the way down to the seashore unless you have a true off-road car. The "road" from P2 on is... well... it is basically huge rocks and mud. We loved the view and the hike but we would not return before the horrible garbage problem is solved.

Access on foot is quite hard, specially the way back to the parking. Also the beach was super crowded and not as good as you see in all the google images. There are much better beaches in Albania

Gjipe beach is amazing. It’s this beautiful beach at the mouth of the cavern. Like most beaches it has become more popular with umbrella’s being set up. The music wasn’t overly annoying from the cafe places. The first cafe at the entrance was awesome. The people who own it don’t charge for umbrellas as long as you advertise for them. I didn’t find this out until paying for competitors umbrellas. But the old couple was nice.
Going up and down the mountain is a HIKE it’s an old dirt road. Not much shade so very difficult if you accidentally get there is the afternoon. I wouldn’t recommend with children. We did it with our 2 year old and we weren’t informed or prepared. There is an old yellow brown keep that goes up and down the mountain, save yourself and use it.
The troll at the top where the parking is is such a horrible person. He claims the entire area is his. He charges for parking. Never gives a receipt. And even if you park further away he will claim it’s still his property. He will demand the money and he or his wife will hassle you until you pay. Again we had a small child who was getting bothered or I would have pushed for a receipt at least. Parking Troll!!
There are some boats that bring you to the beaches, it will be our preferred method the next time we visit.
All in all a beautiful place that tourism has taken over.

A beautiful beach but enjoyment of it totally spoilt by the blearing music and a boat arriving about every 10mins dropping a boatload of people off.
There is a car park at the top but the fee is unclear. The couple next to me were charged 200lek but I was asked to pay 300lek.

This beautiful beach is difficult to get to. How disappointing it was when, after getting there, to see how overcrowded with loungers and umbrellas the place had become. Even more horrible were the two very loud, competing music systems blaring out incessant thumping techno music ruining any semblance of a nice relaxing beach. It was disgusting and antisocial. Sadly, this now seems to have happened to most Albanian beaches. No control, ultra loud music and about 50 loungers for every visitor..

Tja campground was super dirty. In October it was disgusting, with trash and old plastic lying around and wet mattresses lying around. Nature is stunning, and climbing is great - but the people there trash the place, it such a shame..

Nice beach but not nicer than others in the area. Given this, don't think it's worth the effort to get there. Also a shame that there's not as much choice with food etc on the beach itself (and ice cream is nowhere to be found!).

Of course I could write my review about the stunning nature, the amazing crystal clear water and the adventure feeling to walk within 25 minutes from the parking place down to the beach. But while writing this review I’m still shocked what I have just experienced. After a beautiful day at this beautiful beach, we decided to stay over night at the local camping ground . For dinner we went to the restaurant close by. We ordered grilled seafood. What we received was basically a plate full of seafood garbage for 1500 lek (12€). I kindly asked the waiter what exactly I should eat on this plate and even more, how I should eat the garbage of mainly crabs. The restaurant manager then told me, this plate is not for filling my stomach. It’s just for sucking on pieces and enjoying the (in my eyes disgusting) taste. This I already found an quiet remarkable explanation. In favor of the manager I have to mention, that he brought us three additional grilled scampi and one octopus after our complaint. The most disgusting and shocking moment then happened minutes later. In front of guests of the camping ground exactly this restaurant manager cold blooded killed an rooster which was obviously not welcomed. I understand you might now say it’s just a rooster and you are in a kind of wild life camping ground. But the way the employees then bragged about the killing and how the rooster was thrown away in a black plastic back just leaves me shocked and disgusted by these people. I’m no vegetarian or vegan but I strongly believe every life deserves a minimum of respect. I’m having the deep desire to leave this place as soon as I can tomorrow morning. I will not even take the breakfast I have already paid. I never had such a deep desire to leave a holiday place like I’m feeling at the moment. If you’re a friend of wild life camping you might also be fine to throw your used toilet paper in an open trash pin as a sign over the toilet says “no paper in the toilets”. As this pin is was running over full of paper I immediately turned around and left this toilet. For the usage of such kind of toilets and the shower you’re charged 200 lek/ person. That the so called beds in the tent we rented were more like wooden boards is not worth mentioning as it was our decision (fault) to stay here over night on a short notice and we are not prepared for an camping holiday as it should usually be….

What kind of toilet facilities are there? Is it a sitting toilet or ‘squatting’ toilet?

Molto meglio e comodo via mare.

I do not know if there is a toilet in the Camp. But there is a toilet behind the beach bar.
What is the best way to get here, if you travel from Himarë for a day trip? Thank you!

hi, just wondering if the beach is a sandy beach?

It's not sandy, it's a beach with pebbles. So you will need flip flops, even if you don't have them the feet do not hurt. You can reach the bay via boat or by pickup or 4×4, or if you like hiking you can walk from the main road. Take with you an umbrella and suncream and of course hiking shoes.
