When you drive along Albanian Riviera or when you drive to/from the beach, it is impossible to miss this impressive Castle.
Parking is free in front of the Bar Restaurant across the road. there is a small beach in front of the Castle also.
When you park it will take you about 10 min to walk to the Castle and to pay 300 Lek (2.5 EUR or 3 USD) to enter per person. There is ground level and the top level.
In any case bring water or some refreshment and visit this Porto Palermo Castle.

It is worth to make a small detour and visit this small well preserved castle - fortress on the peninnsula. The view from the top floor is breathtaking! Olive trees, agave and the blue sea complete a scenery of exceptional beauty! Built by the orders of Ali Pasha of Tepelene, for himself and his garrison it is shaped in the form of a huge fidget spinner!! It consists, of a ground floor, a top floor and a small basement which was used as prison.

This small fortress was built by a French architect hired by Ali Pasha. Legend is the Pasha had him killed once the construction was done. It is located in the Porto Palermo bay which is one of the most beautiful of the Riviera. For those interested, nearby is also the entrance of the submarine tunnel built during the cold war. This fortress should not be confused with the Himara castle, which is uphill in the old Himara village.

The castle is nice and also the location but it is left to general neglect and filth, good potential but unused.
The entrance fee is 3€=300lek, no receipt and no credit card payment available.

Well preserved 200+ year old castle on an island. It is well worth a visit and do get inside to climb the few stairs to the upper floor. The history of this place is also interesting.

Located on a small peninsula right off off the main road this is an intact castle. As is normal in Albania there is little in the way of signage to inform you. Very rough road to the peninsula but only about 200 meters. Once you park there awaits you a good uphill walk over very rough terrain. This would be challenging for people who are not in-shape. The castle itself is quite nice with good view from the top. Not sure its a specialtrip but if you are in the area don’t miss it.

Situated in Porto Palermo Bay or Panorma Bay in ancient times. Built by a French architect who also built a secret tunnel under the 32 m deep well. Legend says that to keep this secret, Ali Pasha killed the architect along with the engineers after the works were completed. I was there last weekend and this time I liked it more as the guide in charge there gave us a more detailed presentation of the history of this castle and the life of Ali Pasha. Not to mention the stunning landscape of the Albanian Riviera from the towers of this castle.

You’ll find it on the coast road from the north to Sarandë. Nice place to spend half an hour or so (entrance fee 100 Leki). The walk to the entrance might not be inviting, but the castle is nice for a stop.
