If you're in Ende and going to Kelimutu, worth the stop here to check it out a few hours.

I also met Max when i went there so that way i had some guide. Just contact him by whatsapp or call (whatsapp is above in some other review). Turned out to be him the chief of this ANCIENT village were people still live in! Not many tho, the village is pretty empty but there are still people around living in those houses. Max will tell you incredible stories of the places and the chiefs before him, even the ancient chiefs and what was it all about. Pure history. He also gave me the best coffee i ever had, just straight from behind his house (he lives next to the village), he showed me some family living in those houses and i got to meet some people there. He told me so many stories of the place and being there in a ancient village was very... I dont know... special I guess. It was totally worth the few hour stop.

The guy was so nice he even took me (after we prayed for rain to come as it was very dry) all the way to kelimutu!!! Wow....... And stopped in many places in the way to take photos. Amazing. You should stop and visit. No fees are asked for but I really suggest giving a donation. The effort put on this ancient place is big and we should collaborate after we enjoy visiting it.

Hope it helps.
Cheers.

We stop at this village after visiting Kelimutu Lake. Nice people and unique house. We need to walk a bit to reach the highest point of this village and we can see scenery around this village.

Must see village
Nov 2017 • Couples
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Flores.
The village is built on different levels on the side of a hill and doesn't get the tourists that the others do. As a result you will get a personal guided tour by one of the chieftains, we were lucky enough to spend a few hours with Max who told about life in the village.
They were busy making preparations for their annual spirit festival which was taking place a few days after our visit.
Afterwards Maxxi invites us back to his house where we having a refreshing drink and suck on the seeds of a freshly picked cocoa fruit.
Maxxi also operates a small B&B and shop

Saga village and it's amazing chieftain
Sep 2018 • Couples
Flores offers many traditional villages but Saga is definitely the one to go. If you can reserve enough time as local chieftain Max is willing to spent time with you. We planned to stay like 30 minutes but finaly spent there almost whole day. Talking about village, local life, family etc. Max has some great plans and supports local students so even he does not asks for any donation for the village it might be good idea to donate something.

We wanted to visit Saga village shortly. Not sure what to expect, we ended up with one of the two chiefs of the village (Max) guiding us through town, after which he offered us coffee, lunch and climbed the palm tree for a fresh coconut.

After about four hours we left satisfied, a real recommendation! Max asked to add some of his contact details, since he would like to show Saga village to more tourists. If you want to visit Saga village, please contact him on +62 81235 740 670 or via email on maksisaga@gmail.com. He also has a guest house if you're interested.
