This intriguing small town of Horsovsky Tyn is sister city to Nabburg in Germany, where we had attended a festival. We drove to Horsovsky Tyn over narrow country roads and arrived late morning, toured the castle, enjoyed a very good cheap lunch at a place recommended by locals, and drove back to Germany all in one worthwhile day. A very cordial guide gave us a castle brochure in English since only the Czech tour was available at that hour, but herself spoke very clear English and translated just for us at times. She showed us where we could safely stow our umbrellas while we were inside. The castle connects to the Trauttmansdorf nobility of Merano, Italy, where Empress "Sissi" often lodged. Significant artifacts, room furnishings with many framed photos and portraits illustrated a storied golden age of European grandeur.

Beautiful castle within the centre of Horšovský Týn. On a warm day you can cool off in the castle. So give it a go!

The Castle and Gardens are a nice place to visit and enjoy a day out, I especially like walking around the gardens as it is so peaceful and it's a good place for introspective thought and a place for solitude.

This is a combination of a castle and chateau as the remants of the old Gothic castle that the Renaissance chateau are built upon are still visible.
It's a sizable and imposing building that six different tour routes are offered for. We took a combination of the Renaissance and Gothic interiors tours.
We took the Czech language tours as they are more available and cheaper, though tours are also offered in English and German.
I decided to ask for English language accompanying texts and was surprised that I had to buy them. Normally, most chateaus and castles lend such texts out and you return them at the end of the tour. I was also surprised with how full of spelling and grammar errors the texts were.
It really felt like they had simply used a computer based translation program to create the text rather than a competent human translator and proofreader.
Once our tour began, it bacame quickly apparent that the deficiencies of my English language text were of little consequence. The young man who served as our guide on both tours left much to be desired as far as staying on subject was concerned.
As our guide led us through a series of often stunning interiors, he often seemed to struggle for words and had a lot of trouble controlling the tone and rhytmn of his voice. It got quite irritating after a while.
I overheard other members of our tour group complaining about the guide as well, some saying his grammar was attrocious.
There is clearly a lot to see at this attraction and I do think it's worth making the trip to see it. Perhaps a different guide would have influenced me to give this place a "Very Good" rating rather than the "Average" rating that I did.

I visited the castle with my 6 year old son. We waited fot the castle tour only about 30 minutes. I can recommend the castle tour for small boys, because of the guns exposition. The whole tour was very nice and interested.

An excellent castle. The visit allow you to understand the previous style of life. The neighbour of the castle - the old city, especially the square, will bring you a feelings as you are in 15 century. The age is visible in the castle park to - monumental trees which rem are remembering this time, creek and ponds with ducks and swans exhibits the quality of design made some century ago. Also the guesthouse "Parkur" has good quality with delicious meal.
