Good condition and well-cared
Sep 2018 • Business
The fort is in a good condition. The walls are still standing, the path and walk ways are well-cared

The Local's Center of Activities
Jan 2019 • Friends
What I love the most nowadays about Fort Oranje is that it has a space for musical event every week. Sometimes in the front side of the fort is also used by the local clubs for cultural gathering. They do maximize the use of this fort lately. However, I think what is still missing from this place is the lack of information on how this fort was built and used at the past. Overall the location of the fort is great as it is in the downtown area.

Dutch fort
Jan 2018 • Solo
Surrounded by a most this old Dutch fort is just in the center of Kuta Ternate, near Ternate Mall. The museum was closed the days I tried to visit. Interesting to see and free access.

Lack of information as with all forts in Ternate
Dec 2017 • Solo
As with all the forts in Ternate it lacks information in some other language then Indonesian.
It would be interesting to get the story of Ternate; the sultanate and the trading countries and how the forts came to be in the powerstruggle between the portoguese, spanish and dutch... now you need to find information on wikipedia ... getting bits and pieces.

Fort Oranje is big and certainly holds a lot of history but now its mostly a mote, wall with some cannons... of the standing buildings inside is anything old or modern?

Here is job to do... can't be that hard?

Good but incomplete walls
Sep 2017 • Couples
Walked the wall tops and enjoyed it though they are incomplete and blocked in one spot. Inside are some buildings in usable condition and some complete ruins, none of which contain educational materials for the visitor. A group of men in uniform watched glumly as we entered and exited but did not speak
Much could be done with this, starting with repairing the big sign in front. Charging a small fee could pay for it. saw some nice wildflowers and birds. Hope later visitors will have a more educational experience

Poor
Oct 2016 • Solo
Oranje Fort is one of historical place in Ternate. There were so many renovations inside and outside. The new courtyard is nice. However, it's very dirty place. So many garbage everywhere. The government doesn't really put attention to this place

It will be great when it's finished!
Mar 2016 • Couples
Very old property owned by the VOC and located near the shopping areas! The museum concentrates on military artifacts and there cannons visible on the wall looking out over the main ferry docks. Worth dropping in if you're near or have a big interest in the old spice trade. Not worth a special visit otherwise!

Historically significant
Mar 2016 • Solo
The first headquarter of V.O.C. (Dutch East India Company). The government has recently spent a quite considerable amount of money to renovate this site, and the result is quite good. The sea shoreline earlier went up to the fortified headquarter's walls, and the complex must have been quite impressive in it's days.
The site is a very good place to reflect over the colonial days of the Spice Islands.
