Tajikistan national flag in park surrounded by flowers
Sep 2018 • Solo
The national flag of Tajikistan is proudly displayed in a large central square reminiscent of the Soviet era on Lenin Street near Khorog State University. The square is mostly paved, with some well-maintained flower beds and fountains. The flag was adopted in 1992 after independence from the Soviet Union, and somewhat resembles an up-side down Iranian flag (they share a similar ethnic heritage). There are three horizontal stripes: red (symbolizes sunrise, victory), white (purity, snow on the mountains), and green (bounty of nature, Islam). The crown in the center represents the Tajik people (the Persian word Taj means crown). Seven stars arch above the crown (seven is a lucky number representing perfection, happiness, and heaven with 7 orchards and 7 mountains each with a star hanging over it). The national flag conveys the unity and aspirations of the Tajik people, as well as their strong bond with the mountainous landscape which comprises so much of their country. The park is always open, and there is no admission charge. Restaurants, cafes and shops are nearby on Lenin Street.

Imposing flagstaff
Jul 2017
There is a central square and a huge flagstaff with a huge flag on it. It is a good place for meeting locals and to just wander around
