Mythical hero in Terchova
Jun 2019 • Couples
Terchova is beautiful and the monument of Juraj Janosik is rather impressive. Unfortunately, the statue was created by Jan Kulich, a mediocre sculptor of the communist regime. Therefore, instead of the celebration of the Slovak national legend, there is a rather huge ugly monster looking down at you.

The Gem of Terchova village
Apr 2019 • Friends
This absolutely stunning sculpture is definitely the most eye-catching piece as you find yourself in Terchova especially when you approach the entrance to the Vratna Valley for skiing or hiking. Whole experience begins from the bottom where is a big car park and information desk which fully describe the history of Juraj Janosik and history of the sculpture.

The birthplace of a Slovakian national hero...
Jul 2018 • Family
If staying in Terchova or being somewhere close, it is a MUST to visit and see this place. The statue represents a national Slovakian hero called Janosik. Terchova was his birthplace, there is his statue and also a small museum commemorating his short life, below the statue there stands a model of a gallow, where he was executed. You can get souvenirs, costumes with this hero everywhere, so this is the place where you find out, what is is about :-) The statue itself is quite shiny, but why not ;-)

Tribute to a Legend
Jul 2018 • Family
The statue is oveooking the Terchova village and the road to the Vratna valley. The metal statue by Jan Kulich, a famous normalisation artist, was unveiled in 1988 celebrating the 300th anniversary of Janosik's birth.

Small viewpoint above Terchova

Next to the road towards Stefanova you find this monument on a little hill. If you visit it in the late afternoon, the sunset is lovely.

He is so shiny. Slovak Robin Hood!

Its not too hard to spot this monument. Its shiny and very very accessible. Juraj was born (according to the WIKI) 1688 in Terchova and executed 1713 in Liptovsky Mikulas. Because he took from the rich - mostly raiding traveling traders - and giving to the poor. Its not confirmed, but the saying "Bohu dušu a mne dukáty" loosely translated as "Soul to God and money to me" is linked to this figure. You can find 1000+ hints, pictures, hotels, restaurants with his name. Around Terchova and Orava, this is deeply tied culture. You can buy "Jánošíkov dukát" - shiny coin with Jurajs head almost everywhere. The way to the statue is for 10 minutes of slow walk, even the smallest kids have no problem to get to the top. Honestly you may have problems to keep them on one place, because surrounding is mostly grass. By the bottom of the monument you can hop on the cute train, buy some souvenirs, popsicles and get tourist info. I wasn't on the train, we came too late - after 18:00
