We hired Michal to translate and assists with family visits and to help us navigate various Slovak archives where we might find records on our family. Michal was professional and experienced but most of all, he took great joy in his work. He was never too tired to continue on after a long day. He helped us find new records and pointed us in the right direction for additional records available online. He was knowledgeable about record sets and called ahead to the various repositories to ensure we could get access to the material. We were delighted that we chose to work with Michal and I highly recommend him to anyone who is interested in traveling to Slovakia to learn and research their family history.…

Michal Razus did incredible job researching and finding our relatives in eastern Slovakia. Not only was he our genealogist but he was our guide and translator for an incredible 12 hour day visiting distant family members, their homes and cemeteries of our ancestors. Definitely the highlight of our month long trip to Eastern Europe. I’ve already informed the next generation of our family who will be visiting Slovakia to contact Michal.…

Michal Razus did a wonderful job of helping us visit our great-grandparents' village. Luckily he was able to fit us in for a guided day trip.He taught us a lot about the region in general, and also helped us focus directly on our own family history. He also did some follow-up genealogical tracing for us. As a tour guide, he is an excellent combination of knowledgeable, interesting, and client-oriented (able to target what we wanted to see and do). Highly recommended!…

All my grandparents immigrated from Slovakia between 1901 and 1903. I had several old documents giving their birth dates, villages of origin and immigration dates. I mainly wanted to visit the three villages, see the countryside that they knew, explore the headstones at the local cemeteries and visit the village churches. We got in touch with Michal Razus through the Slovak Tour Guide website and booked both the Ancestry Tour and Wooden Churches Tour for 11 & 12 Sept. 2018. We also wanted to see Kosice (recommended), so we booked three nights at the Bristol Hotel in Kosice and took the 0836 train to Presov each day (arrives at 0920) to avoid paying Michal an extra $47/day for pickup/return in Kosice. The train only cost a few dollars round trip (seniors over 70 yr.s get a steep discount) and is only a 10 min. walk from the hotel. Michal is a gregarious history and language major, re-constructs family trees and gives talks at international genealogical conferences. He did an outstanding job. He showed us the three villages, acted as translator, contacted town hall staff and looked up possible relations in old land records, met the local mayor who personally drove us to cemeteries, unlocked the town church and told us about the town and local families (he was quite possibly a distant relation). Michal identified the homes of possible relatives and knocked on doors for us to briefly meet a possible in-law. We found the rolling hills near these villages to be strikingly beautiful and stopped for photos many times. Michal has a rare talent for connecting with the local people and for making things happen on the spot. However, at times things move fast, and you have to engage these people through Michal and direct their attention to the specific families names you came to explore. We received a sincere warm welcome and kind help from everyone we met. The next day we did the relaxing Bardejov Medieval Town and Wooden Churches Tour. It allowed us to see the countryside and towns of northeastern Slovakia and learn some of its history. We highly recommend this tour service, and Michal Razus in particular, for making your short visit fruitful, memorable and satisfying. To obtain open dates favorable to your schedule, try to book as far ahead as possible. Did this review earn a “Thank you” vote?…

My one-day journey in Slovakia was a genealogical adventure. Michal knew right where to go to help me locate records for my family, and introduced me to the village where my ancestors were from. He is very knowledgeable about the country. He also located a cousin living in that village and acted as translator so that I could learn about the family. Should I ever be lucky enough to visit Slovakia again I will most definitely be contacting Michal!…
