...but monumental… our traveling mates thought if it was Roman built but not (thinking about those aqueducts!). Inaugurated in the XIX century, suffered damages during the WWII, rebuilt and for many decades was a favorite suicide spot (now protected to prevent). Watching from the ground is imposing; if plan to visit the town, just park the vehicle at the free carpark under this multi arched bridge, then just take the cable car to the city centre (cost 1,00 euro per person each way), easy.

The bridge was built again after the Second World War. The upper arches, about 60 meters above the ground, rest on the old foundations. The bridge is vital for the viability of the Appian highway, creating a direct connection between Albano Laziale and Ariccia,
then proceed to Genzano di Rome and later Velletri.
Walking along the bridge, on clear days, you can enjoy an enchanting view of the valley below up to admire the sea shore, especially during sunset.
The Ariccia bridge has earned the reputation as a tragic suicide bridge: in fact, perhaps because of its great height, it was the goal, over the years, a number of suicides. ANAS to avoid further such incidents in 2000 has affixed barriers in tensostructure along the bridge.

Wonderful place to escape the heat of Rome... we drove up from Rome for the evening... the temperature would be about 10c difference... its also a great place for food and wine... many great places to choose from. Finally the scenery is spectacular looking out to the sea... just beautiful... enjoy! But, remember, the best time is the evening...

Great view, sunset, surrounding villages and the sea... a pleasant stroll. The bridge leads you to the Piazza della Repubblica, the main square of Ariccia.

This location has enormous beauty all around with slopping vistas, friendly people and great restaurants. We walked in this area many times as we stayed in Albano.
