- Rob RByford, Australia131 contributionsGreat Arctic zooWe drove put for the day from Rovaniemi, was an awesome drive along snow lined roads but there were some expensive bus day tours available. The online booking saved money for us on entry as did driving ourselves. Unfortunately the bears were resting, probably due to there being ice, snow, fog and a minus 2 temperature for the day. Coming from a warm, southern hemisphere country this was a great chance to see Arctic animals in their frozen environment. Was well worth the trip and hopefully you see the bears.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 19, 2023
- Paul CLondon, United Kingdom58 contributionsWorth a vist while in LaplandWell run Zoo, route was easy to follow with plenty to see. Apart from the Polar bears we got to see all the other animals, worth the hour bus ride from Rovaniemi, restaurant on site, takes about 2-3 hours so plan your journey based on that. No need for an expensive tour, bus from town does not stop anywhere else so us quick and through lovely landscape.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 1, 2023
- 4x4 AustraliaCoffs Harbour, Australia217 contributionsGreat day out.Had an amazing day walking around the Zoo… I really liked its planned out into a loop and not retracing tracks… It was -19 so alot of the animals were tucked away.. but we got to see the main ones. If you go here you have to accept your not going to see all the animals .. I thought it was reasonably priced.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 14, 2024
- KatieBebington, United Kingdom7 contributionsFun few hours! We had a fun 2-3 hours at this Zoo. A lot of the animals could not be seen as they were hibernating, but it is a great Zoo to see some rare arctic animals you wouldn't find in your home country. The zoo is relatively small but is really fun if you are looking for something extra. The Wolves and the Lynx were our favourites.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 15, 2024
- Sars560Tamworth, United Kingdom272 contributionsWell laid out and beautiful landscapesA lovely little zoo. Be prepared if visiting in Winter months that you may not see ALL animals... but this is no different to any other zoo. We found this zoo incredibly well laid out with a simple path flowing throughout the zoo where you walk past all exhibits. The animals appeared well looked after with decent enclosures. Highlights for us were the arctic fox and amazing Venus the polar bear who was out feeding when we went. Incredible to see arctic animals amidst the beautiful snowy forest landscape. Not huge, so don't bank on spending a full day here... but well worth a visit.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 1, 2024
- Anish b8 contributionsGreat Time! Good ZooGood experience and worth the visit. We took a private tour that we had booked offline and our pickup location was the Santa Claus Village. The driver Aleks was courteous. We spotted the Polar Bear and the Artic Reindeers 🙌😄Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 11, 2024

I rate the Ranua Wildlife Zoo as average because it is a zoo.I am not a zoo person would rather see the animals in their own environment.
I will say though that the animals, birds, mammals etc are housed in rather large enclosures although why was the otter not in water? instead it was being displayed in a glass cabinet and in fact appeared to be having convulsions
The polar bear was pacing back and forward to the fence that separated it from the female in fact it was quite agitated and at that point I found the exit and a quiet spot to sit and wait for bus departure
Two wolves and again running back and forwards I was not happy to see this
The birds mostly owls where quite subdued but then they are night birds I suppose
On the upside there is an icebar and one can purchase alcohol or hot chocolate
Opposite the icebar is a fire with seats where in winter one can warm oneself and then continue on your way or as I did eat my lunch
The scenery within the zoo is amazing especially in December when there is snow and as the sun rose the glistening in the trees
Because of the snow one must walk carefully or you will fall I had icecleats on my boots and they do grip better than just the sole of your boot
The drive to the zoo is amazing as one watches the sun rise in fact the only day that I saw the sun and had not just risen than it started to set so magical.
As usual a very overpriced gift shop and overpriced food so I suggest as I did that you take your own food and hot beverage
I would never suggest that no one visits this zoo as being the northernmost zoo in the world that is a feat in itself but I do feel the animals deserve a better life

A nice finnish experience, but in the middle of the winter wirh snow, there is not too much to see. Some of the animals are moved indoors for winter, bears and foxea are sleeping their winter sleep. Everyhting is covered with snow, not all the animals are easy to spot. Childrens playgrounds are not very convinient outside fully covered with now. Kiosk closed for the winter. I would recommend to go diring summertime or reduce the price for winter if there is nothing extra organized.

It was snowing heavily when we visited, so we didn't manage to see all the animals in the zoo. However we did get to see some unique ones such as the cute little arctic fox and the all-white snowy owl. The animals we saw all looked well-cared for. A nice place to get in touch with nature's creatures.

This zoo offers a nice opportunity to see arctic animals which are well taken care. Area is clean. Only downside is the restaurant which seemed to serve school lunch type of buffet. Can be good though. We didn’t stay once we took a glance of it.

This zoo displays wildlife that can be found in Finland but has the addition of Polar Bears. Went here twice whilst staying at Gulo Gulo Holiday Village accommodation. Nice to walk around with animals easily viewable.

The walk round the zoo is grand a rolling path, the wildlife on view is adorable.
Food served is good quality and delicious. Try a glass of homemade beer.
Shops are reasonably priced. Check out the wines.

We went to the Zoo during warmer winter days so we were lucky to spot almost all animals. The park is home to ice bear, artic fox, lynx, wolf, owls, Pallas cat, reindeer and many more.
You can get to the Zoo by bus from Rovaniemi in less than a hour. There is also Fazer chocolate store in the entrance area. I would recommend you to go in less popular days of week. We went on Saturday and it was quite crowded.

Wild life animals , Birds and spectacular views and scenery. Nice walk through the passages in the Zoo. Perfect for photos. Recommend for all the family. If visiting in winter important to have proper clothing as temperature may go really down.

We go to Ranua Natural Park independently, not with an organized tour.
Twice a day the scheduled bus and the Express leave punctually from the bus station, with convenient stops also in the city centre, and take you to your destination in about an hour.
The morning is freezing: 20° below zero, felt like 25°; along the 2.8 km walking route there isn't even a refreshment point to warm up.
Even animals rightly prefer to stay holed up.
In mid-December the brown bear is obviously hibernating; the polar white one doesn't... but we don't even see a shadow of it.
In the aviaries some birds of prey are still sadly available to be photographed; even rodents don't fare so badly in the display cases inside.
We can see wolverine wolverines, wolves and foxes, musk ox, moose, reindeer, wild boars. We are informed that injured and no longer independent animals are also welcomed here.
The zoo is made up of approximately fifty species of wild animals for a total of 200 individuals, with protection of species at risk of extinction.
The souvenir shop is unmissable. Two restaurants offer a tasty buffet lunch.

Grazie

Hi!
I would like to ask if the student tickets are available just for Finnish students or if students from other European universities can buy them too.
Thank you very much.

Bonjour faut il réserver à l'avance pour accéder au zoo ou bien est ce possible de s y rendre sans?
Merci

Non ti consiglio di andare in autobus perdi troppo tempo, affitta un’auto, li è una delle cose che costa meno ....

Hi,
On the website english.ranua tickets are £30 for ticket and a buffet lunch. Is this website genuine?
Whenever I look on other excursion websites & Expedia they are £80-£150 per ticket?
How much did people pay for their tickets.
Written October 3, 2019
Hi! The website is the Zoo´s official website. The prices for the tickets you are looking at are from €29,50, directly to the zoo and not to an external company. One can also choose to pay only the entry fee and later pay for separate lunch. The lunch is well worth the money. Finnish home cooking with local produce and meats, always 3-4 dishes to choose from.
Dont know if other excursionsites offer transportation/booking fees/ additional activities to the zoo and that is why it is more expensive? The zoo does offer plenty of arctic activities during the winter.
I went with the family and took the Family ticket option (tickets only) and paid €51 for 2 adults and 3 kids. This during the summer season.

Ciao!

From Ylläs log cabins in Akaslompolo, any transfers or pick-ups to Ranua wildlife Park? Thanks in advance 😊

Pretty long distance (one way 250km). No easy public transport. Prefer renting a car (at least 3 hour drive).
