This zoo is definitely my new favourite. It has long winding paths and wooden bridges that can take hours to complete but it feels like an adventure finding your way from the start to the finish. There were many animals to see including polar bears, reindeer, wolverines, owls, eagles, beavers and wild boar to name a few. They also have... More

The 30 mins ride from Rovaniemi was worth it as we were guided from 1 enclosure to another with the guide explaining to us each of the animals from polar bears to arctic foxes. It was a challenge to walk the long distance under sub-zero temperature but to see those animals in their elements while hurried our way must be... More

We expectd little, got tons! We went there right when it opened in the morning. Had the zoo all to ourselves. It was amazing. Seeing animals in their natural habitat is great. The park is huge and the variety of wild life is huge. Had hoped to see moose from up close, but they were at the far end of... More

Nowadays I don't really like zoo's, it makes me sad to see the animals outside their natural habitats, locked up. Ranua zoo is a beautiful exception: they have mostly nordic animals, so they are still in their natural habitats. They live mostly in small packs in quite big inclosures. They seem to be content, and therefore I enjoy going to... More

If I had planned the weather better, we would not have chosen that day to go. It was half-snow half-rain and after 1 hour the kids wanted to go back to a warm place. Overall, the presentation of the animals is very good (we had a chance to have a very nice guide with us) and you can really see... More

This zoo/wildlife park has good sized enclosures for the animals. There is a boardwalk which goes all the way around. I really liked the collection of owls most of whom were posing for photos. If it was warmer I could have spent a whole day here. I spent about 3 hours which was a bit longer than I had intended... More

The Ranua Zoo or the Ranua Arctic Wildlife Park is located in an hour drive from Rovaniemi (in Lapland) and is open for visitors all year round. The zoo visitors can observe more than 50 wild animal species and 200 individuals living in environments as authentic as possible in captivity. In the summer, the domestic animals park is also open... More

This zoo has a great feeling. The environment feels very natural with boardwalks taking you around the enclosures. The trip provides the opportunity to see mainly the native Finnish wildlife, that you would otherwise not have the opportunity to see.

We arrived at noon, which meant that we had to rush a bit to attend the polar bear and brown bear feeding at 12.30. But it was really worth attending the feeding times as we got to see the animals at their most alert times, heard interesting things about the animals (in Finnish, but the keeper did answer some questions... We spent a few days in Lapland and thought a visit here would be a good way to see some arctic animals. It was well worth a visit. The place is well laid out and the animals looked happy in their habitats. Recommended
