I just can't find enough superlatives to describe the sheer beauty and charm of the place. The colours, wood, terva smell...

We were driving past Petäjävesi and saw this lovely church from the road. We had to make an U-turn and return to take a look. It was really worth it. What a lovely wooden church. It's one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites in Finland. Oh wow, the outside of the church is so pretty and the surrounding cemetery have... More

Old angels and holy men & Saint Mary made by simple country men are really amazing just as the atmosphere of the church and its surroundings. Worth of visiting.

Though we're not really of the right religion… but this place is so authentic that you can't help but FEEL the history and lives of the people of this region throughout the last few centuries. The ancient wood works are awesome. A great place to visit – just a very short distance from the main road, and yet another world.

A wonderful old wooden church that dates back to 1763. The old church remains to be in very good shape based on it's age. It was used every Sunday up until 1879 when the new church was built across the river. A UNESCO world heritage site since 1994. Fortunately when I was there it was open and plenty of information... The Petäjävesi Old Church is a unique, tiny, all-wooden church located in Petäjävesi, Finland. It was built in 1765.It is located about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) to the west of the centre of Petäjävesi. It has retained its original appearance and interior decoration exceptionally well. If you're looking for peace and quiet while admiring the simplest but most sincere work... More

Great Old Church, very different from the churches I am used to. Completely built with wood, all the interiors. Very nice light coming trough the windows and illuminating the interior of the church. The floors are quite irregular, but nothing to be sacred of. Also, very nice surroundings, the lake, fields of grass and the wood fence.

18th century wooden church listed on the Unesco world heritage list. The church is situated on a junction of waterways and is a very nice example of Finnish wooden architecture. The church is still in use of services to this day
