This is the pool in front of the Paanch mahal. It has a stage in the middle where it is said some sort of entertainment used to take place. There are four walkways to the centre. The stage is surrounded by a small railing. If you look closely you will see water channels which were used to fill the pool. Unfortunately the waters looks dirty and is greenish in colour due to lack of maintenance. A real shame.

This was a place where the king used to listen to the performances of his artists and singers. Special was Tansen who was one of the Navaratnas of Akbar. It is believed that when Tansen sang Raag Malhar and Raag Deepak, it started raining and lamps lit up. Historically a important place and gives a glimpse of Akbar's love for art.

Anup talao is another place inside the Fatehpur Sikri fort complex. It is said that Tansen used to perform at the center platform of the Anup Talao and Emperor used to sit at the top floor of Khwabgah just in front of it. Also it is said that its the same place where the singing competition between Tansen and Baiju Bawra took place.

Just next to panch mahal and diwan-i-khas. The water in the pond is green which shows the lack of effort on the part of Archeological Survey of India which is very keen to charge money and sell tickets but not maintain the monuments properly.

With the Panch Mahal as a backdrop this centuries old place of entertainment can be brought to life with a bit of imagination.

Whether it is myth or not, the claim from the old texts and records is that the water tank was filled with silver and gold coins and shimmered with the rays of the sun. They were then given away to charity supposedly worth crore (millions) and emptied the tank. They should have called it metal tank not water tank.

Even more than the individual buildings, however splendid, what is striking in Fatehupr Sikri is the "sharpness" of the organization of space. This is certainly due to the fact that Fatehpur Sikri is a "founded city"; but probably even more to the fact that it was abandoned very quickly; and therefore it was "crystallized", without further additions, in the ways that the sovereign and his builders wanted it to take initially.
And in my opinion this character is felt in the highest degree in the area that goes from the Diwan-I-Khas (private audience hall) to the Anup Talao. This area is in fact made up of two large squares (the Pachisi Court, and precisely the Anup Talao square), adjacent along one side, which I believe express well the joy that the planners must have had in planning.
Yet geometry isn't an aim in itself: it pleasantly "captures" the eye, but this is then further bewitched by the asymmetry that is set on this geometric basis, asymmetry determined by the presence of elements of very different height and shape; the soaring Panch Mahal, the Diwan-I-Khas and, precisely the Anup Talao, with its four bridges, the delicate balustrade, the central raised platform and the steps edging the outer edge of the large pool. Water, which is an essential element of the whole, increases the charm of both the Talao and all the surrounding space.
I don't believe there is in all the Mughal imperial palaces (but I haven't seen Lahore….) any open and built space, which gives a feeling comparable to this one, as to how men master space by stone and water.

There is a jalied balustrade at the center along with a raised seat. There was a water work system to which the tank was connected to fill it up with fresh water. The tank was also connected to the Sukh Tal to prevent overflowing of water. The Panels in the tank has the scenes of forests and gardens. Sukhtal Water Tank, the control, storage, and use of water are important in both the Hindu and the Mughal traditions, for spiritual as well as practical reasons.
