It should be an expectation that all travelers to Finland check out this stunning expanse of natural, wooded beauty. I wish I could’ve stayed longer, and I’m certainly going back next time I visit the country. Give oneself plenty of time to stroll, smell the flowers, hike the diverse trails, stand above the small winding road below the high bridge, and take a dip in the lake. Nobody would ever get bored here.

My one most important highlight, though: a crazy amount of the trail network in the park is accessible to motorized wheelchairs. As in, constructed out of compact, smooth, pavement-like dirt. Parts were so soft that I could’ve been convinced I was driving my wheelchair on asphalt or concrete! Of course, not all the trails are like that, and I did venture into a few areas with questionable accessibility (which did concern me with how much mud I encountered), but never did I get stuck or completely deem the surfaces impassable. And these aren’t ADA-level trails (complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990), but even if not up to regulatory standards, I was blown away by how accessible a lot of the paths were.

I won’t detail much else, and if you need logistical advice, look it up online or read other reviews. I simply want to provide the persuasion and motivation to explore this breathtaking national park. Highly, highly recommended!

Sipoonkorpi national park area forms the core of the forest massif just 30 minutes drive away from the centre of the capital of Finland. There are lots of other wooded areas outside of the actual park boundaries as well.
You can begin anywhere, there are marked trails as well as wilderness where only the Maps application is your friend. It's good to have a knowledgeable local showing you the way.
It's a heaven for mushroom and berry picking, experiencing ancient forests that have been spared from logging and nature at its best.

Only 30 minutes by car and you are in the middle of a beautiful forest.

Several marked paths, some harder than other and of different length.

Great for a day trip of hiking.

We had a great tour through the forest on perfectly prepared tracks. The sun was skining from the claer blue sky and we had great fun. A nice place to get a view of peaceful nature not to far away from Helsinki city.

Perfect place for a 1 day excursion. The hiking trails are so beautiful anytime of the year. Most of the routes are clearly marked and even as a first time visitor it has been easy to find the way around. Now that we finally got some snow, I hope the skiing tracks will be open soon! Nothing better than a hot coffee in the forest on a snowy day :-)

We were hoping to find edible yellow mushroom while we head straight and ignored the walking path but end up by discovering colourful mushrooms 🍄 Somehow, hiking up and down over steep rocks for two hours was fun and exhausting. Oh we darely even walked across the swamp.

Sipoonkorpi national park is on the east side of Helsinki. It is a small national park much like Nuuksio to the west from the capital. Little overcrowded for a Finn. It is a beautiful area, lots of rural views and forests on hills and even a (bit crowded in good weather) beach on lake Pilvijärvi. During the summer it is an easy get-away from the city life. Autumn brings a harvest of mushrooms and berries, although the locals are quick to spot the best places.
