The main front of the monastery (seen from Rákóczi tér) is particularly worth seeing, while the other fronts are mostly a little plainer. The size alone shows how important the monastery must have been. The baroque complex was built around 1735. An altarpiece by Maulbertsch can also be seen in the church.

The Cistersians were always smart and high educated peoples. They offered knowledge and respect to their surroundings. The convent payed for workers and developped a countryseat with their wine. Their site in Zirc is famous of the abbey builded in baroque style. Highly intelligent restoration gaved back the shining magnificence of these peaces of art. The two organs can give concerts for ocasions worth to listen. The beauty of the library is a woodcarving masterpiece.

We went there during Christmas holidays but could only visit the outside and a small part inside as ticket office was closed.

What a beautiful holy place! Simply amazing and breathtaking! It has museum and a huge library and botanical gardens!! FYI, soon it will have it's own lager! Zirc will make the famous lager very soon!
If you around Zirc you must stop here and see this beauty. Well worth a visit!

The abbey is simply amazing! The entrance fee is a bit high, especially if You would like to visit the whole complex, but it is worth the money. The buildings are fully renovated the venue is beautiful. Certain parts of the abbey are accessible only on a guided tour, but the guide is funny and informative. You can spend here many hours enjoying the beauty of the past. I can just recommend it!

We spent our holiday near to Zirc with our dog. We wanted to visit the Abbey, but unfortunately we could not enter the garden with our dog on leash. In many other countries (e.g. Austria, Italy), such sites are dog friendly, the management knows that tourists with dogs have no chance to leave their pets anywhere else.

We enjoyed our visit and we're amazed at the local history in this corner of Hungary. Adjoining the abbey was a natural history museum, historic library and arboretum. All of which proves to be informative and entertaining. A visit to Zirc is certainly worthwhile if one is in this area of the country.

We spent some time in Zirc and in the neighborhood. First day we visited the Library of the Abbey, which was really astonishing. We had also a look on the church from inside. The guide was up to the task and told interesting stories as well.

We had a lovely evening stroll around the entrance gardens. The building is beautiful and we were sad that we could not go in as it was shut. Don't miss out on a stroll around and reading the information boards about the Building's history, even when closed.

Is an advance reservation necessary for tours?
Written August 26, 2016
We have just visited today and the number of visitors was quite low. We didn't pre-book for anything, and it wasn't a problem. The library tour is every half hour, so if there are to many people, you wouldn't have to wait long for the next one. I hope that answers your question.
