- Dozuro FSingapore20 contributionsBeautiful volcanic craterBeautiful volcanic crater. Strong sulphur smell at times but may make some people sick, but the view is worth it. Steps down to the crater are gentle so my elderly parents had no tough time going down and up.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 8, 2023
- Dileepa MColombo, Sri Lanka361 contributionsTop attractionNo need of guide, entrance fee is okay, not a lot to walk, can go in the car almost to the place. Even if you don't have a car, they have a public transport vans which would be a good experience to try out. Very scenic place, would recommend to travel.Visited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 18, 2023
- Stephen GMelbourne, Australia47 contributionsLike being on another planetWe chose a private driver, and he was driving a brand-new innoxa people mover. Very luxurious car, and very comfortable. The trip from Bandung to the crater took about an hour and a half. Travelling over freeways, then winding roads up the hills. The crater itself is very impressive With lots of sulphuric, steam and curious warning signs. Didn’t see one suggesting no swimming though!Visited January 2024Traveled with friendsWritten January 16, 2024
- Renan226 contributions20min is enough to visitNice place, you can walk around (not 360 deg around the lake, you're limited) and take photos in as little as 20min. The smell is ok, though you'll find yourself coughing for no apparent reason so wearing a mask is a good idea. The little vans that take you from the first parking lot to the top are from another era, that's fun too. As pointed out by other travellers, the 5km from the parking lot to the lake are boring, no need to hike them. You can reach the crater from Jakarta in about 2.5 to 3h. Take the Whoosh speed train from the Halim station to the Padalarang station then you should find a taxi / Grab or private drivers / tour guide who will approach you there. I paid 500,000 return with a local tour guide found at the station (Grab was 226,000 one way). At 9am, it took me 1h20min to reach the crater. There's a lot of food or restaurants nearby but nothing much when you reach the top. If you take a private car, continue 1-2km after the parking lot to see very nice tea plantations.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 5, 2024

Visiting white crater on weekday in the afternoon, the crowd is not too much. Visit only less than one hour, because i have to reach ranca upas asap. Not much to do here, I only take picture because the scenery is amazing.
Comparing to my last visit 10 years ago, this place is now becoming well organized. The path is well maintained, has stairs with patio. No need to be scared to walk to reach the crater. Kids can also join, dont be afraid they will slip. The management provides a bridge for sightseeing for senior citizen who are not able to go down to the crater.
There are some photographer who can help you to take nice pic. You can ask them to send the photos to your phone for rp 10,000/each pic or being printed for 20,000/each pic. Just bargain.
Note : the ticket is quite expensive if you want to park your car closest to white crater. Or simply park your car close to ticketing area and get angkot to the crater.

Some helpful tips: You will reach Bandung in about two hours by car. You pass through several very well-kept mountain villages, where people live by growing strawberries, tea and rice. You arrive in a large car park and pay the ticket. We, equipped with a private driver who waited for us for the entire duration of the visit, got on a very characteristic orange minibus, open on the sides, with a capacity of 12 seats, very noisy, which took us to our destination in 15 minutes of climbing. . The crater is located a few steps from the new car park, whose shore can be reached after about thirty steps. There are many Indonesian locals, few other tourists. It is possible to go around the crater or access some panoramic areas from above, paying for access (coral for 1 euro). In the surrounding area there are some activities such as archery and horse riding.
The various signs recommend staying for a maximum of 15 minutes: the smell of sulfur can actually be felt and after a while you feel a slight discomfort of an irritated throat.

Not much to do here, just took photo and enjoy the view. Should be carefull as not much safety fence. An old cave alao located here but closed for any entrance (for safety reason).
Sulfur can be smelled strong in here, so use your mask.

Kawah Putih, a sulfuric crater lake south of Bandung proper. A feast for the eyes, less so for the nose. Masks are available for sale from hawkers near the entrance, but I'm doubtful they do much in the way of respiratory protection. Pre-covid days saw crowds of influencers taking selfies for their social media. The views are magnificent.

Since I read bad reviews about Tangkuban Perahu,we decided to do South Bandung tour instead of North.First destination was the White Crater. It is a nice place to spend an hour clicking photos. There is a treetop walk nearby which you can spend a couple of hours walking. Our Driver Jonathan brought us to all South Bandung places(+6281910022338). He spoke good English and was a nice tour guide as well.At the crater, there are lots of photographers around who will click your photos for a fee. They was a store selling crater mud also(for skin treatment)

MashaAllah, very good in terms of scenery. It's just a shame that for some people it is quite expensive and not worth the facilities they get.
Enter 160 thousand for the car. Nearly 30 thousand per person multiplied by 6. Every time you want to go to the spot you pay.
Suggestions for becoming a popular tourist spot for all levels of society
The road up is not smooth, at that price the road should be repaired
The toilet was also repaired
And other facilities.
Dear ontang anting drivers, we are guest drivers who don't know the terrain to go up.
When they passed each other from above, they screamed because they passed each other by accident
They should guide
Like in Dieng or Bromo tourism, the volunteers are ready to help and are polite.
Hopefully the future will be better and friendlier
West Java is developed and friendlier to tourists

it's been the umpteenth time I've spent summer vacation in Indonesia, the island of Java has always been my favorite place when on vacation, and Java Private Tour has always been my best friend during my trip and organizes all my holiday needs, and if I stop by for a tour in Bandung, West Java I definitely always visit Ciwidey with Java Private Tour, one of my favorite places is the white crater, in my opinion, who is also a hobbyist with photography, the white crater will never end to be explored from various angles. this year this place is even better in terms of infrastructure, and the connecting bridge in the middle of the crater adds to the exotic appearance of this crater. thank you white crater for its natural charm, and thank you Java Private Tour for introducing this white crater area to me when I first visited Bandung in 2008, and since then always accompany me and my family on adventures exploring various sides of the island of Java.

Definitely worth checking out. The colors are almost impossible to capture in a photo. We were there on a Thursday around 10 am and it was not busy. There were many photographers who wanted to sell you their services, but were not pushy towards us. Because of the smell and fumes you can only really stay there for a maximum of 15 minutes, but it is definitely worth a visit. We have combined this place with tea plantations and the long walkway.

We found the crater itself slightly disappointing when we saw it from below. Although the color is spectacular, that's it. There are also many photographers offering their services and other tourists. However, what is worth the most is going further to one of the viewpoints. There you have a beautiful view of the mountains, the crater and the surrounding tea plantations!

hi is it safe for people with bad knee pain to go down to the crater,? or can i just see from the top?
Written July 19, 2019
if you have knee problem, it is better you bring along a walking stick to provide support and stability as the area's surface is not exactly flat and easy for walking for someone with knee problem

How long does it take to drive from Bandung airport (set off around Saturday 2pm) to Ciwidey?
Written June 14, 2019
It will probably take you 1-2 hours depending of course on traffic. Traffic was bad while we were there in December as new highway was being built. Have a pleasant stay.

Hi, I would like to take public transport from Bandung to Kawah Putih.
Based on my research, I can take a minivan from Leuwi Panjang Terminal to Ciwedy and transfer to an angkot to Kawah Putih.
Is my research accurate? How long is the journey time on Sunday?
Thank you :)

i'd prefer a local chartered transport. as i went there with the whole family it turs out to be cheaper @ 500k IDR. and the driver will tend to ur need until nite time.

Is it possible to take Uber or grab from Bandung? How much will be the approx fare? Is it easy to get another Uber on the return trip?
Written April 1, 2017
We took Grab car from Bandung (our hotel) to White Crater. It isn't easy to get a return car back to town (or i would say none except your driver waits for you). We took the Angkutan Kota (yellow-coloured van) down and stopped by the hot spring to warm ourselves. Then, took another Angkutan Kota all the way down (to Ciwidey bus terminal). From there, you can take another transport back to Bandung town. =)

From google maps i see it takes about nearly 3 hrs by car from bandung to kawah putih, but it's only 51km away! Is it due to the traffic condition or road condition e.g. long and winding way up to the white crater?

Hi, there is public transport to kawah putih. But you have to change few times, it's better for you to ask from the hotel where you live. But from the entrance gate in Kawah Putih, there will be a shuttle from and to.
