Beautiful volcanic crater. Strong sulphur smell at times but may make some people sick, but the view is worth it. Steps down to the crater are gentle so my elderly parents had no tough time going down and up.

No need of guide, entrance fee is okay, not a lot to walk, can go in the car almost to the place. Even if you don't have a car, they have a public transport vans which would be a good experience to try out. Very scenic place, would recommend to travel.

We chose a private driver, and he was driving a brand-new innoxa people mover. Very luxurious car, and very comfortable. The trip from Bandung to the crater took about an hour and a half. Travelling over freeways, then winding roads up the hills. The crater itself is very impressive With lots of sulphuric, steam and curious warning signs. Didn’t see one suggesting no swimming though!

Nice place, you can walk around (not 360 deg around the lake, you're limited) and take photos in as little as 20min. The smell is ok, though you'll find yourself coughing for no apparent reason so wearing a mask is a good idea. The little vans that take you from the first parking lot to the top are from another era, that's fun too. As pointed out by other travellers, the 5km from the parking lot to the lake are boring, no need to hike them. You can reach the crater from Jakarta in about 2.5 to 3h. Take the Whoosh speed train from the Halim station to the Padalarang station then you should find a taxi / Grab or private drivers / tour guide who will approach you there. I paid 500,000 return with a local tour guide found at the station (Grab was 226,000 one way). At 9am, it took me 1h20min to reach the crater. There's a lot of food or restaurants nearby but nothing much when you reach the top. If you take a private car, continue 1-2km after the parking lot to see very nice tea plantations.
