This is one of Aberdeen’s oldest buildings, and is home to Aberdeen’s 17th century jail. Free entry, loads of information, nice staff and enjoyable. The Scold’s Gag or Branks which was a corporal punishment for gossipers is interesting!

If you are in stonehaven be sure to check out this little museum. The place is absolutely amazing, full of beautiful and interesting items. Staff take up work with care and talent.

There is a gift shop in the museum. There you can find ordinary souvenirs like magnets and postcards, and more unusual and beautiful ones. I would highly recommend. Absolutely MUST HAVE in Stonehaven !!!☺️

A small museum but the exhibits are interesting and the staff are super friendly. Came to chat with us and kindly gave our two kids a free gift. Brilliant to see local history and art by the local schools.

I visited the Tolbooth Museum with my husband and children in April. It is situated right at the harbour in the town's oldest building and hides so many fascinating, hands on, exhibits of local and general interest. The guides were so welcoming and kindly interacted with my two lively children who both loved investigating the old jail cell and completing the quiz sheet. A fine experience for us all.

It looked like a boring little museum that doesn't charge for entrance. But inside it was a treasure trove of information and history. The custodian provided as much entertainment as information.

If you are in Stonehaven, GO HERE. I cannot recommend it too highly.

This museum, which is situated in the oldest building in Stonehaven, forms part of a very attractive harbour side. It is worth noting however that in winter the museum is only open at weekends.

Quirky collection of artefacts covering local life, shipping, the sea, life years ago etc etc. Really worth a visit, it’s actually a collection put together by a local man. Admission is free but you should leave a donation. Interesting place to while way an hour or so.

Wandered in here with limited expectations, and frankly, the collection of stuff is entirely random and incoherent. However they old guy running it was a gem, full of enthusiasm, and kind to the kids. It was free to get in and whilst you should only visit if in the area, it was a pleasant 20 minutes.
