Hailing from Cape Cod, I'm a self-proclaimed beach snob. Fronton did not disappoint. The ride out from Las Galeras can be a roller coaster, but, thankfully, these boat captains really know what they're doing. After 30 minutes of thrill, you are greeted by a stunning coral strewn beach flanked with soaring cliffs. Based on other reviewers guide issues, I would highly recommend that you book a tour with Manny at Explora Ecotour. A native Dominican, who was raised in the US, Manny is an active environmentalist. He arrange everything with the local captains (so you money helps support the community), but also stayed with us the whole time, helping us find more secluded spots while also telling us interesting facts about the ecology, history and culture of the region. I agree with others, Fronton is a snorkeling beach (do bring fins to fight the current) more than a swimming beach. But Manny paired our trip with a stop at Playa Madama which has great swimming. He also gave us great tips about where else to go and eat while in Samana.

Very private, hard to reach but you go there by a small boat and the view when you arrive is hard to describe with words. The beach has got the privilege to be on the movies of Pirates of the Caribbean which just says something about the quality of this beach. You can snorkle but watch out for sea urchins, if you step on one it will hurt ☹️ Also look out a bit for sand flees, they are not so fun either.

If you are lucky like i was you will maybe be able to see whales from a distance but you have to be in DR between the middle of January til the end of March to have a chance to see them.

Amazing beach, amazing experience and memories i will carry for the rest of my life

Playa Fronton is a hidden paradisiac beach in Samana, DR. Arriving there is an adventure and the only way you get there is by boat. The cost of a boat is approximately US$70 dollars. Eating there is worth it, fish is fresh and food is not expensive. Fronton is amazingly beautiful, you will find a lot of 'native eagles' flying above your head over the huge rock that you see when you arrive. I heard people go there to rock climb. I visited the beach during my honeymoon and it was an amazing experience. Worth it any time in your life!

We went to las Galeras and hired a fishing boat to take us to Fronton Beach yesterday. While we were there our boat guide insisted we take a beautiful hike up the mountain to see the view. My husband decided to stay with our bags while the rest of the gang went upward. While we were away, my husband was held up by three men each one carrying a weapon-- machete, long knife, and gun. All our belongings were stolen. Fortunately, my husband was unharmed. We believe the boatmen at the pier were apart of the hoax. I do not recommend you use their services but instead go with a reputable tour agency if you visit this beach.

We LOVED this beach which we hiked into, however, we were robbed by 3 men who took our bags including our rental car keys. After running to the adjacent beach, we were able to get a boat back to Las Galeras. The police were able to be hired to help, yes, you have to pay for their gas! They just happen to have an idea "who" and "where" to get some of our items back... yep. We got most of our things back including the keys to the car. We loved this area, but there is some sort of scam going on that the police are in on. :(

PLEASE ONLY GO TO THIS BEACH IF THERE IS A LARGE GROUP OF YOU AND VIA BOAT!

My boyfriend and I (who have lived in the Dominican Republic for five years) took a local guide to Playa Fronton and were robbed at knife point. We had all our phones and money stolen. This took place on Wednesday, 29th July.

As a tropical storm was due the following day of our excursion, we were advised to take the one hour hike (which is beautiful in itself) through the jungle to reach Playa Fronton, as the ocean was a little choppy to take a boat. Therefore, there is one way in and one way out to the beach! There are NO POLICE for security.

Both men were in their mid - late 20's. Because of COVID they were masked. One man was around 5ft 10'', slim build and wearing a plain grey hoodie (hood up of course) and shorts and trainers. He had cut himself on his right shin, so may have a scab/scar now. He was a light skinned Dominican.

The second man was around 6ft 1'', wearing all black t-shirt and shorts and a white mask. He is a little overweight. He has short(ish) Afro-Caribbean hair and slightly darker skinned. He also has a tattoo on the back of his shin and had a slight limp at the time.

Our guide didn't recognise them and therefore doesn't believe they are from Las Galeras, but from the larger neighboring town of Samana.

Avoid Javier Santos at all costs. My girlfriend and I are both fluent in Spanish. Javier Santos lied to us about everything. Javier Santos told us we were purchasing our own private boat for the entire day with our own guide to go snorkeling. The truth was that after we left Playa Grande Las Galeras, we picked up 10 other people. We were instantly dropped off on Playa Fronton (which is beautiful) and our “personal guide” left to pick more people up in Las Galeras. The current was too strong to snorkel safely without a boat and a guide which we thought we were paying for. We didn’t talk to the guide until he picked us up to return to Las Galeras. The beach is worth the trip, but Javier Santos will lie to you and tell you whatever you want to hear to charge you a lot more money. Just know all your paying for is a round trip taxi boat, and avoid doing business with Javier Santos.

Today we hiked into Fronton. First we visited the blow hole which was quite impressive as it was rough seas today which made the blow hole especially active. The hike in was really neat... high marble cliffs on the right... ocean to the left while wandering through lush green forest. Lots of fruit trees to sample if you know what you are looking for. As it is Easter weekend the beach was filled with locals who were tenting so it was quite crowded. Its a shame there is a fair amount of garbage around but otherwise it is very pretty there. The snorkelling was so/so mostly because of our cloudy day and rough seas but we still saw a variety of tropical fish. Definitely wear watershoes at the very least as the reef is filled with urchins. If I were to make any strong recommendation it would be to take a guide if you are hiking in for your safety. I had read the reviews of people getting robbed at knife point and it actually happened again this morning. It is quite a shame as in my opinion it leaves a bad impression for the tourists who are being taken advantage of by some local crooks. All in all we really enjoyed our day and our guide was knowledgeable and made us feel very safe. Oh, and wear good hiking shoes as the trail is very rocky... one twist of your ankle and you'll be done. Enjoy!!

Fronton is a beautiful and remote beach. A great spot for a picnic, but you have to be careful swimming- the floor is a bit rocky and was teeming with sea urchins. I found it hard to get a handle on the safety of this spot. Yes, its very isolated, but felt perfectly safe to me. A couple of locals were warning people of going too far down the beach. I'm not sure if there were banditos back in the woods, but what are they really going to steal from people who are at the beach in their swim trunks anyway? Perhaps they want to keep people close to the dock area to sell them drinks? Really not sure. This is a good spot to go if you are looking for the feel of a deserted isle. The hike looked like it would be ridiculously long and arduous, so we hired a boat from Las Galeras for $20 each. Money well spent, in my view.

I am speechless at the beauty of this site. First time I felt my breath being taken away from me. The water is a 100% transparent turquoise color, fishes and corals are gorgeous, and the mountains decorate the scenery with a naturally elegant scene. The boat ride can be a bit wild since waves can get pretty huge and strong, but the trip back to your hotel is faster and easier. I would definitely love to go back.
