If you want to go to see the sunset there are plenty of nice places in town... isn't worth to be crowded to see a sunset. During the day is less crowded.

Kind of kitch, but yet something authentic and endearing about the whole experience! We visted a Saturday in winter, and it was crowded, mostly with locals and Brazilian tourists. Many small, nice cafés and tapiocarias, and beautiful handicraft.
Take a river cruise at sunset and listen to the saxophone player serenade you. He has been doing it every night for 15 years! Beautiful sound and sights.
The place is now comercial, the sound is playback only the nature (the sun in the rainbow) is very good.
Unfortunately I arrived late for the sunset but even then I found a violinist playing setting up a nice music to walk on the street with. There are local stalls with cheap products and some restaurants in which I didn't go but looked nice
