One of the best places on the earth. I have been here few times, during both May and October season. May season has the lake frozen but you can enjoy the whole place almost for yourselves. The view of the trek is equally beautiful in both seasons. The lake is pristine blue during October but the unbearable crowd kills almost all the fun. The enroute view is extraordinary. It is awe inspiring especially for those used to living on the south of the Nepalese Himalayas to be on the other side of the majestic Himalayas. Some places between the TILICHO lake and the Basecamp can be tough but I was busy being mesmerized by the surrounding beauty that I hardly mind it. It’s a must visit place for me.

There are not that many mountains on this world that are higher than 16,000 feet. This lake is. Beautiful lake

The walk to Tilicho lake in Manang is not easy. With best guides and good preparation, you will reach this place safe. The final walk to the lake in the morning starts around 4 a.m. This is the hardest part of this trek. The views, sights, lake itself is worth the walk.

You can leave your bags in the Tilicho base camp. And get ready to wake up in the early morning at about 4 a.m. The hike is straight uphill so get your pace slow and move conserving your breath. You will be at an altitude of 5000 so get your self a warm water carried with you and garlic as a natural remedy for altitude sickness. If you did it ok and you are healthy, you can conquer the Thorong la pass.

I visited the Tilicho Lake side trail with a friend in April 2018 over 3 days.

The lake itself was completely frozen over at this time of year, however the snowcapped mountains along the way where probably at their most majestic along this section.
The terrain itself was tough in parts, particularly on the way to the basecamp as you mist traverse scree through landslide prone areas.
The accent of 800m upto a touch over 5000m from the base camp to the Tilicho Lake look out is of course very taxing, with many steep switchbacks before the top. However the view and sense of accomplishment more than makes the effort worth the climb.
My YouTube channel 'Intrepid Road' has two detailed videos on the trail to give you an idea of what to expect.

Taking the time to visit the worlds highest lake is well worth the time and energy. The views alone are worth the side trek. Although the trek up to the lake isn't too difficult I will say that, well, It wasn't exactly easy either. It snowed the whole night before , so the route up the mountain was extremely slick, wet, and cold, but i would do it all over again if I had to.
A few tips:
1. Make sure to remember to put sunblock on. We left at 0500 and the sun had not risen yet and we totally forgot to put some on, nor did we bring any with us. since it had snowed the whole night before our faces got fried at the top.
2. If you do not have a guide make sure to get to TBC as early as possible because there wasn't any rooms available by the time we got there and we had to sleep in a supply room. WE HAD GUIDES TOO.
3. Drees for the occasion. We saw several trekkers in non-hiking gear and they were hurting and wet back at TBC.

Tilicho Lake (4919m) located at Manang District of Nepal and lies around the Annapurna Circuit, which is also called the worlds highest altitude lake and covers an area of 4km in lenght, 1.2km wide, average depth 85m and has 41000000 US Gal of fresh water.
Tilicho lake offers a spectacular view of the Tilicho peak along with Tilicho lake.

It takes around a week to visit Tilicho lake and get back to kathmandu, now its easy as you can get transportation facilities till Khangsar, Manang. AS you will find many tea house around this trek, so you don't have to worry.

Please do feel free to enter Manang Village and go and have good food at Tilicho Hotel, Really good people with warm hospitality, you will not regret.

Really beautiful and short trek around Annapurna Region. Nepal once is not enough.

Tilicho lake was always in my bucket list. Finally was lucky enough to see its beauty during my Annupurna circuit trek. The lake is simply amazing and claimed to be highest lake in the world with a level of 4919 meters high from sea level. Its it just a 2-3 days trek from Manang village which includes some of the most thrilling trails.

Would highly recommend everyone visiting Manang or doing Annapurna circuit. This route is a must and if you are tight of time, would recommend to end the circuit at Jomsum BUT highly recommend to include Tilicho Lake. Am sure you won't regret !!

Good luck and have fun.

Do this. Take the extra time to take the trip to Tilicho Lake - It will be the most difficult part of your trek but the views are amazing.
