If you have 6 hours or so, hike roundtrip from podul bei to cascada beusnita and back. The hike is 14 km and is very flat and easy to maneuver. Bring a towel, in the summer, you will be unable to resist a shower in the cascada beusnita waterfall. Halfway along the trail, is a campground that has food and drinks for sale. IF you don’t have have time make the whole hike you can drive to this camping from Podul Bei, the road is awful though. From the camping to cascada beusnita, it is 1.5-2 hours walk.

The whole Caraș-Severin county and especially this area has such a high tourist potential, but unfortunately it's highly underrated. If you have the option to visit this National Park, do it. Either go camping (great option because you can do the long hike from Sasca Română to Devil's Lake/Lacul Dracului) or base yourself in Sasca Montană, or even better, in Sasca Română. We stayed at Casa cu Roți and it was great!
Beware that the roads to get here are awful and driving with more than 30 km/h will seriously damage your car. But it is all worth it, because you will see very beautiful landscapes here: a lot of waterfalls, small rivers, crystal-clear lakes (not only Ochiul Beiului and Lacul Dracului, but several unnamed lakes) and rock tunnels.
If you stay in Sasca Română, do the trip to Ochiul Beiului and Beușnița Waterfall on a full day. It will take 7-7.5 hours the round trip (without stops), but it's really beautiful. You start from the village, then cross over a suspended bridge (actually looks like in the movies!), then hike to the rock tunnels (some of them so low that you have to bend to be able to cross them) and end up at Podul Bei . From there you go towards Ochiul Beiului Lake and stop by La Văioaga Waterfall on your way. If you want a refreshment, stop at the Valea Bei trout restaurant to eat, have a drink or use the restrooms. Continue until you reach Ochiul Beiului, then Beușnița Waterfall. Then go back (or explore further, you can still go 30 minutes or so in the Beușnița valley). The hike is easy, it only has some harder parts, but very manageable even without hiking shoes.
Other options for hiking: park your car at Podul Bei and do the same hike as described above, but without the tunnels, to save 2 hours. Alternatively, drive to the Valea Bei trout restaurant (păstrăvărie) and go to Ochiul Beiului from there. However, be careful because the road is very bumpy and you will also miss some nice views, so it's best to do this part by foot. Another thing you can do is park your car at Podul Bei and do the rock tunnels. It will take you only one hour or so the round trip (so if you don't go all the way to Sasca Română, but return after finishing the tunnels).
An amazing hike is the hike from Sasca Montană to Șușara Waterfall. The waterfall itself is not spectacular, but the hike makes it all worth it. You will cross a small river several times, see a cabin hidden in the woods and at the end you will need to cross a portion where you have to hang on to cables to not get your feet in the water. The hike is very easy as well. This is a short trip (less than 2 hours the round trip), so you can also do it the day you arrive and the day you leave. And be sure not to miss it! It's way better than it sounds!
Finally, if you want to go and see Lacul Dracului (Devil's Lake), you can't do it from Sasca Română or Sasca Montană, unless you plan to not return and sleep there somewhere. We haven't been to this lake, so I don't know which route would be the fastest, but it definitely involves driving to the southern part of the national park, most likely to Cărbunari or the surrounding villages, where the hike should be 2 hours or so (one way).
Because the information on the internet regarding the distances in the Cheile Nerei-Beușnița is pretty scarce, I will write down a few of these gained from my own experience visiting the area:
Sasca Română - Podul Bei (this is the hike that leads you through La Tunele - the rock tunnels) - 1 hour - 1 hour and 10 minutes
Podul Bei - La Văioaga Waterfall - 40-50 minutes
La Văioaga Waterfall - Păstrăvăria Valea Bei (the trout restaurant) - 35-45 minutes
Păstrăvăria Valea Bei - Ochiul Beiului Lake - 40-50 minutes
Ochiul Beiului Lake - Beușnița Waterfall - 15-20 minutes
So in total: Sasca Română - Beușnița Waterfall ~ 3 hr 10 minutes - 4 hr
Sasca Montană (the end of the village, closest thing you find on Google Maps is Rocker's Inn) - Șușara Waterfall - 40-45 minutes
*Podul Bei is reacheable by car, but not marked in any way on Google Maps and TripAdvisor won't let me post a Google Maps link. If you search "La Tunele" on Maps, you will see a crossroads of 3 roads just on the right of it - that is Podul Bei.
Overall, a great place to spend a few days and relax in the wonderful nature this National Park has to offer!

This is a delightful experience because it appeals to the tourist who enjoys scenic drives but also to the more experienced hiker who likes taking short nature walks to nearby attractions. And there are attractions galore, for both young and fit, as well for the older adult, who wants to pace himself yet have some beautiful sightseeing opportunities. After a short hike (3 Km) in Cheile Nerei National Park, you can reach the interesting Ochiul Beiului Lake (I guess the turquoise color of this small lake is due the abundant copper mineral in the area). If you cross the river and continue another 20 minutes on the trail, along the rushing waters, you can reach Beusnita Waterfall, spectacular at any time (delicate mist creating rainbows when it is dry, impressive volume of boiling waters when rainy). To reach the waterfall, you have to get access to Nera Valley National Park, through the village of Potoc. From Potoc, you could choose to bike, hike, or drive the unpaved road to the a camping place and the chalet "Cabana Valea Beiului". It is good to know that your cellphone might not have signal in this area but you can rely on the hospitality of the DNR or of the Trout Farm staff who can assist you in case you lose communication (they are both located in the camping area, they have landlines, and are aware of the issue). On the forestry road leading to the camping spot, you might also want to pay attention to signs (or stopped vehicles) to discover the conspicuous Vaioaga Waterfall. From Potoc village, you can continue on county Road 57 B to Oravita heading to Domogled National Park and Baile Herculane, a beautiful resort with thermal waters and vintage architecture, very posh and fashionable at the beginning of the 19th century.

You leave your car at the Fish Farm, where there is also a cabin, and from there you travel by foot for about one hour and a half, until you reach the eye of Bei. After that you go for another walk for 15 minutes and you will reach to the Beusnita waterfall. It is a half a day trip but it is worth it.

It was an experience but not fabulous. I wouldn't go out of my way but our Romanian hosts were very eager to show us this large and varied National Park that had featured hiking tails, streams, small falls, and Roman tunnels.

Nera National Park it is a wonderful place to hike. Great view over the river and mountains. You need special equipment boots, water and food in backpack (almost 3 hour last to visit it). You can find tunnels in the stone of mountain, a high bridge over the Nera that swing a little and more. You have to be careful, it is not so difficult to do it. It is marked white and red marks you have to follow. Being eye it is quite amazing, a wonderful blue. You must see it. You may follow the white yellow marks. From the era national park you can drive until the Fish farm and a one hour walk until the Bei eye. The Beusnita waterfall it is a few minutes from Bei Eye.

The National Park itself is quite nice and large. Not many facilities, or practically no facilities at all, so you have to bring everything that you may need in your backpack. The terrain is moderately difficult so its improtant to have good boots. The route is marked so its not hard to find your way through the woods and get to all waterfalls. Its a very lovely destination for an active day outdoors.
