This is quite a small Shinto shrine but it has huge and ancient trees on the grounds. It is yet another building connected to Kobo Daishi here in Shuzenji. To enter you walk through a large torii and climb a steep set of stairs. Take...More

The giant trees reminded me of the sequoia...not as large but just as impressive. There is a twin tree that is suppose to grant fertility to those who pray. Small but quaint little shrine along the river walk.

The shrine was built to guard Shuzen-ji Temple therefore it's very close by but with a different entrance. It's relatively small but you will be able to find a pair of giant oak trees which is 800+ yrs old.

Another shrine in Shuzenji, very close to the main shrine Shuzenji Shrine. You can visit it and you can pass, it's nothing special, especially if you've seen many other temples in Japan.

It is a small quiet shrine, which is not really interesting. Meoto Sugi, two giant Japanese ceders, are however remarkable.

This is another pretty temple nestled in the trees. The trees are pretty much the star attraction for me and were very striking.

It is a small shrine quietly standing in Shuzenji. Nothing really unique or special about this shrine. But since is within walking distance from Shzenji Temple and is free, just add into the trip. Maybe the interesting thing is the hundred years old cedar tree...More
