Heading through the main street we took some stairs which brought as the top of a hill where the castle is located. Only a tower stands there but there is a great view over the town and cathedral.

Round this castle the development of Gemona started in the 10th Century

This is the historic building where the medieval town of Gemona originated. The castle was built in the 10th Century and was damaged, like the complete town of Gemona, in the devastating earthquake in 1976. Even now the restoration hasn't completed, as witnessed by the scaffolding and the crane on the picture I added. But "Castello di Gemona" is a historic site in the Friuli not to be missed.
