I liked my visit to this castle, on a hill above THE place where THE Moldau/Vltava and Elbe /laba. You visit about 10 nicely furnished rooms in two wings. There are two Antwerp cabinets. We were THE only visitors ( winter) and a lady followed to put on and off the lights. Nice to visit

Visited from Usti nad Labem with a relative. We arrived by train and as a warning to others - it is quite a long hike from the train station to the main square and the castle. We chose the self guided castle tour with a printed information in English, very sufficient, less people and the interiors are nice but not impressive. We visited the ice cream store and the wine shop in the castle courtyard. The Church of St. Peter and Paul is closed for renovation, but the ossuary in the basement was open and interesting. There is a walkway on the outside of the castle grounds, overlooking the vineyards with ripening grapes, both rivers and the overall region, a magnificent view. We had a lunch at the main square at a restaurant with outdoor seating, near the information center.

Beautiful castle, very nice 60 minutes tour where you learn a lot about the Middle Ages history, architecture. The last heir and current owner of the castle lives there and you can meet him during your visit.
There is a vine boutique, restaurant and above all excellent patisserie. Their desserts are simply delicious.

The castle is beautifully situated. Also offers a nice view. But the tour of the castle is not recommended.
The guide only spoke Czech. There was a brochure for non-Dutch speakers that you could read along with it. The guide had memorized the booklet and recited it neatly as if he had started a (long) prayer. After 20 minutes we were still at stand 2. The story is only about the family history of the castle. We then decided to go outside again.
Conclusion: the outside of the castle is beautiful, but don't go inside!

The castle is actually beautiful, I've been there before.
This time we had a guided tour and it was in Czech.
This means that the tour is reserved for locals.
A headset with German explanations would have been helpful and can be arranged with little effort.
If we hadn't had one before.....

We did this as an optional tour on a river cruise. All I can say is 'Don't'. This wasted the better part of the day when we could have been doing something else. The town of Melnik is a dump. It is quite a strenuous walk up to the castle. The castle is poorly maintained and the furnishings old and ratty. The wine tasting in the caves sounded like a good idea. However, there were only 3 wines to taste and none of them were very good. The best part of this tour was the overlook of the rivers below the castle. Not worth the money or the time - tour some place else.

It was nice to see the place but the attitudes were unbelievable. Ten of us took a day trip out to see Melnik. When we got to Zamek, we were a little confused as to where to go. A few of us went down some stairs to ask someone. We found out it was a wine cellar. We asked (in Czech) first about doing a wine tasting and the gentleman rudely said we had to book it ahead of time. He did manage to tell us where to buy tickets to the castle.
We went to purchase our tickets for the tour and the woman was angry that we went into the cellar. She said there was a sign, but we didn't see it and the gentleman working in the cellar didn't say a word about it. Not all of our group went down, but the woman charged us a penalty on top of the fee to the castle. We tried to explain what happened and she was terrible unprofessional and the woman sitting behind her sat with her arms folded scowling at us. It was an honest mistake, and they were not willing to work with us.
We didn't get a tour guide. There was one young gentleman that answered our questions, but it felt more like we were being watched rather than escorted. It was just a terrible experience. If you do go, plan ahead. Call first. And put your cameras away. They speak English but it was obvious they didn't want to with us. I believe most of our group was very respectful and feel that we didn't deserve to be treated like that.

Totally disappointed . It was a waste of time and money. Prague has so many beautiful , impressive sites . There is not enough time to explore the city and his so many buildings . This "castle" is plane and not worth the drive. Our coordinator at Avalon Waterways recommended this excursion . They must be partners or something like that.

I had taken my study abroad classes there for years. It used to be a fantastic experience. However, when the owners divorced, and Bettina Lobkowicz was no longer owner, the castle tour, wine tasting and restaurant quickly went downhill. In particular, the restaurant is now on the "must avoid" meals in all of the Czech Republic. I took my class there last May and we had one of the worst meals anyone had ever experienced. I was completely embarrassed. The castle tour is still worth doing, but the wine tasting is marginal and most important, AVOID the restaurant. I warned you!

Our visit to Zamek Melnik was really highlight of our trip to Czech Republic. We stayed in Prague for a week, had various tours and excursions organized by our travel agent and liked all of them more or less. The idea to visit Melnik came to our mind after we occationaly found information about that place at internet. Melnik is about thirty munutes drive from Prague.
It is very difficult to describe our feelings. The castle is located on a hill next to the river and the view is amazing. It may seem strange but we felt like at home there. Castle itself is not the most beautiful in the world, I suppose. But it is absolutely cosy, quiet place with extremely courteous staff.
Me and my husband like good wine. Zamek Melnik is the place to taste it in a special wine cellar (they produce wine) listening to explanations by a very nice young man speaking perfect English. Prices for that as well as admition fees are reasonable. You can also buy the wine you liked in the castle shop. I found it very cheep.
We also had lunch at a restaurant in the Zamek. Food is delicious.
After very busy Prague we got a chance to relax and imagine we were in the Middle Ages when I guess people did not have to hurry.
