We drove down to Pichavaram from Chennai, expecting a normal boat ride in the backwaters.. Went there and chose a row boat for 2 hours.. we got the best boatman and he took us to the most scenic routes ever:) Imagine.. calm water with trees surrounding u like caves.. and we can even hop on to a tree and take... Nice to see mangrove forests and it is a unique experience and TTDC needs make this place more attractive and publicize in large scale

Splendid back waters.. Beautiful place with nature's best place. We were group of 10 friends visited the place through car. Hired a boat and which is more affordable 1500 for 2 hours journey. First boat man took us to beach where the tsunami hit place many people lost lives and some peoples were moved to safe place near back waters.... More

visited the location with family at around 11 am which was less crowded and went for a 1 hr ride which cost around 320 inr for 5 ppl.the Boat person took us to the interior of mangroove forest which was really amazing , he gave time for us to take pictures and had a nice time in the ride. From Club Mahindra Pondycherry, we left with our Call Driver(per day Rs 700/-= Meals)on cuddalore road to Chidambaram. Reached Chidambaram,an abode of Lord Shiva in Nataraj style, a must visit for my North Indian friends, a very holy place.Had BF @ a hotel near temple (delicious,pursefitting) and dashed back on the same route to Pichavaram. Awesome place . Did not expect it to be this amazing. We were surprised by the vast greenery. Very picturesque. The boatman, as mentioned in the previous reviews did ask for extra money..but we did not mind it cause the ride into the thick mangroves was so worth it. we went to this place on Sep and it is very calm and nice place. Mostly it will be around 3 hours trip where you can enjoy boating in Mangrove Forest. A lovely sightseeing place amidst waters and mangrove forest... quite adventurous when you cruise inside the forest with the thick cluster of trees... people of ashes will enjoy and good for family outing. If you go to chidambaram add pichavaram on your itinerary besides temples. One feedback to department is to make the hotel functional as you won't get anything... More
