A Must-go place during Mahamaham which happens once in 12 years to cleanse yourself and to get rid of "sins" accumulated. Learn about the rich history before visiting the place

We need more such water tanks in the midst of every town to provide a pleasant view and cool breeze in the hot weather. This is a temple tank which has religious significance with religious festival held every 12 years attracting thousand of devotees to bathe in its water. The steps are very slippery where it touches the water.

Of course, all hindu temples in Taminadu have one small lake called as "kulam". The pilgrims are expected to enter into the temple with purity and for this purpose, they used to take bath in the lake and then enter into the temple so that they can have a clean worship of the God. The mahamaham temple at Kumbakonam is... More

Yes it's a lovely place to spend the evening. The tank is absolutely clean, but swimming is prohibited. The steps of the tank serve as gallery seats. Youngsters and old folk alike, meet up in the evening to have a chat and relax in the evening breeze. The view is good from all sides of the tank. Above all it's... More

Took holy bath in this temple tank during the mahamagam. Its the sacred holy water where we can burn our karmas by taking a bath.

One of the most revered tanks in the temple town of Kumbakonam, it is amongst the must visit places. It is also well maintained, thanks to the mahamaham festival held once every 12 years (the latest one in 2016)

Well, Kumbakonam is noisy small city which for tourists mainly used as staying spot to other nearby villages and small cities. Mahaman tank is only place here where you can relax after busy day time!
