Well maintained Navagraha temple but the priests of Sri Rahu shrine located inside showed rude behavior to the devotees who came to have darshan of Abhishekan planned at the time when hardly 20 persons gathered there.

These priests simply refused others while allowing those having tickets to sit and view the abhishekam.

Either the priests should have demarcated a section of the huge hall with a barricade so that free darshan is possible from the section behind those with tickets.

Abhiskeham is performed to Lord Raahu in this temple during Raahu kalam.

I have tried to put in all the details related to Abhiskekam.

Since raahu kalam is different on different days, please check the time before u reach the temple.

Tickets are given at the counter inside the temple starting from 1hour prior to Raahu Kalam.
There are 3 different types of tickets.
350/- seating will be very close to Lord Raahu's idol.
250/- seating will be little far.
100/- seating will be further more far.

But abhiskekam can be clearly seen for all 3 tickets.

It takes around 20-30 minutes for the abhishekam.
Later a garland and prasadam will be given to everybody.

Also please don't forget to take blessings of Lord shiva and Parvathi before or after the abhishekam.

The place is crowded due to Rahu god .... the tickets are available for performing milk abishegams to the idol for which heavy line will be there .....
If you want to get darshan of the god .. you can do that without any ticket ....
I inquired a person near the counter .. who walked with me and took me closer to all the idols in the temple ..and he did not quote any price .. asked us to give anything as you wish ... we paid 200 rs to this person ......

Thirunageswaram temple is 6km from Kumbakonam on the Kumbakonam - Karaikal bus route and by train, there is Thirunageswaram Railway Station between Mailaduthurai and Kumbakonam and the temple is 1km on the south.

This temple is dedicated of Lord Raaghu (Rahu) who is one of the Navagrahas. Those who have Raaghu dosham are advised to visit this temple and perform pooja for Raaghu to earn his blessings. Pooja for Raaghu is performed during raaghu kalam. All details can be obtained from temple office inside the temple. All pooja materials can be bought inside the temple. Temple authorities will guide you on the pooja for the people who have raaghu dosham.

I visited this temple together with my family in August 2018. I am surprised that not much has been written or shared about this temple on TripAdvisor. I feel blessed to have visited this temple and would like to share my experience.
The main presiding deity in this temple is Lord Shiva. This temple is revered to be one of the 9 important navagraha (planets) temples in India, dedicated to Lord Rahu (North Lunar Node). Lord Rahu is believed to be relieved from his curse at this temple where he prayed to Lord Shiva. Therefore, Lord Rahu relieves his devotees from Rahu Dosha and shower them with his blessings at this place.

Highlights of the temple as mentioned by the priest are stated below.

1) Milk poured on Lord Rahu's idol as abhishekham, turns blue in colour. The priest explained that since Lord Rahu is a snake, the milk turns blue upon contact with the idol indicating the presence of poison. This affirms that the deity is very much alive. However, abishekham is only done on special occasions.

2) Goddess Girigujambal, a swayambu lingam that radiates heat waves. Goddess Girigujambal performed a penance at this temple to relieve herself from a curse and reunite with Lord Shiva. The temple priest also shared that Goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswathi (seen at the sides of goddess Girigujambal) are believed to be still pacifying her. If not for the two other goddesses, the heat experienced at the shrine would be more intense. My family and I experienced the heat waves personally and no words can describe this divine experience.

This temple is a must visit for all Hindu devotees. Do not miss it!

This is a huge temple, dedicated to Lord Rahu, The temple also has Siva temple within it along with Rahu temple, in case any one is interested in Abhisheka of Lord Rahu, then evening 4:30 is the appropriate time where in one has to get there a little early and buy a ticket for the Abhisheka. There are many eateries around the temple, The temple closes from 1 PM to 4:30 PM.

This is a very huge temple premises with many sannithis..

Shiva - Nageswarar
Ambal - Pirai Ani Amman

In all the temples Rahu baghvan is seen in
Serpent shape, but here he is seen in human form with HIS wives Nagavalli Amman and Naga Kanni Amman.

In this Temple, Rahu Baghvan is called as
"Mangala Rahu". He worshipped Lord Shiva in a shivaratri day and got his curses releived..

Come and pray for your welfare..

Thirunageswaram (Rahu temple) is about 10 Kms from Kumbakonam.
Sri Naganathaswamy Temple, Thirunageswaram is a big temple and has exclusive shrines for Naganatha Swamy (Shiva), Pirayani Amman (Parvathi), Giri-Gujambika (Parvathi) and Rahu with his divine spouses. Goddess Girigujambika has a separate shrine in the north side inside the temple campus as it is believed that the goddess is in mode of deep penance. This temple is said to be built in 10 th Century by Aditya Chola. The temple tank is named Surya Pushkarini.
A unique feature of Sri Naganathaswamy Temple is that Rahu Bhagavan is seen with a human face. Usually in other places, Rahu Bhagavan is seen with a serpent face. Here Rahu Bhagavan is present with his two consorts Nagavalli and Nagakanni.
Photography inside the temple is not permitted.
The temple timings are : 6 am -12.45 pm and 4 pm -8.30 pm .
