With a group of friends, we took about 3 hours to drive from Xinduqiao (5 hours drive from Chengdu) to arrive at Zheduo mountain 1 week ago. The mountain is beautiful but during holiday and weekend, its traffic could be very bad. Hence you'd go get there earlier, say before 9am. The altitude is above 4,000m (12,000 ft). Won't be a problem for most people as of driving up there gradually.

I past Zheduo mountain three times when in Kangding. Great view, it is really breathtaking! If you have motion sickness, the drive might be a bit too much as it is basically zigzag road for 30 something kilometers.

We drove through this winding road at night. The wind is piercing to the bone. The aerial view of new Kangding county city is thrilling!

Had a short stop at Zhe Duo Mountain Pass (elevation: 4298m). The grounds were full of blooming wildflowers and the views were lovely when I visited in the last week of June. Visited in the morning and it was really cold, strong wind so do grab windbreaker.

It's really freezing here, the weather is around -10c but the view was fantastic and truly breathtaking, it's definitely one of the best backpacking road trip I've ever been in my life.

Zheduo Mountain seems to be mainly short stop-off point on the way to Xinduqiao/Tagong. Not a whole lot to see here, unless you're planning on going trekking, in which case it might be a lot better. We visited on a cloudy day, so view of valley was just okay. Roadside looked like it had been bombed and had sellers hawking yak kebabs and jerky to the many tourists. Stone steps up to the prayer flag pagoda were covered in messages scrawled in permanent marker. Honestly don't understand why so many city visitors insist on ruining these natural landmarks with their vapid statements. Worth stopping by for a short thirty minute stroll on the way to other destinations, but not worth making a special trip out unless you're planning a serious trek.
