If you wanna have a big adventure in the Amazon, you should do this trip! We've been a group of four friends (22-23 y.o.) and made a lot of experience through it. Highly recommend it!

We did a 3 day-tour in Family with 10 & 16 year-old kids. We had been travelling for several weeks and unforrunately we have to say this Madre Selva tour was the worst experience we had, for the reasons I describe bellow. Not only the content was far below expectations, but the owner Diego recognized all the bad service they provided, understood our disappointment, promised to give back part of the money : the price if far too high compared to what you get, and mostly to what the local workers (guides, lodge cook, driver...) really get. The major % of the money goes in the pocket of the Owner (who, as I said, recognized what he delivers was so poor) and very little in the pocket of the local people (who actually do the work for him). Disappointment reasons: 1. the "Selva or Adventure" Tours have nothing to do with adventure or real "selva". It 's only an accumulation of little visits, one after each other, of very touristical $$ places : cascade walk (2 hours walk, almost no space on the path to cross the incredible crowd going on the other way, buses parked on the entrance...), fake crocodile farm (we didn't see any ;-!), the Swiss guy and his Monkey foundation, a chocolate manufacturer by the road, the big swing with the view point on the forest, big fish farm (interesting but still nothing to do with Selva nor adventure...). We had only 1 real walk in the Selva (4-5 hours) in 3 days!!! Even the "boat" trip was completely fake : 20-30 minutes, then you put the boat back on a truck and it comes back quickly to the starting point for the next tourists...I didn't mention the tourist "craft" shops you go through in between all this little stops. Therefore : if you are looking for nature and / or adventure, AVOID ! This really breaks your dreams !!! We were so sad to realize how these people turned our dream of "Selva" experience into a nightmare or a big joke. If some of these touristic visits might be of interest for you, which is fair, just go on your own with a cab, but don't give some much money to a guy who is useless in the process. 2. Services were incredibly poor : - dirty "lodge" (cigarettes on the floor in the room, toilets... that can't be described, just see the pictures). You can get a fantastic cabin a real village of a real community (not a fake lodge for tourists by the road) for 10 to 20$. - quite often we had to walk on dangerous roads (the driver / transfer seemed to be so busy in taking the different groups here and there that he couldn't do everything...) All this being said, 2 positive points : - nice local guides (even tough the guide changed twice in 3 days!!) - funny boat / rafting session on the Paztaza river (not really "selva again...) with a great guide. But again, no need to give money to a lousy go-between agency for that, go directly to the rafting company, there are a lot. To conclude, I would say that the main disappointment with this agency / Diego, is the way they promise and don't deliver, the way they lie, and the way take the biggest % of the money of nice people who do the real work, without providing any real service. Finally the main communications we had with him was about when and how I would make the deposit...

I strongly recommend “Madre Selva”. We took the 1 day tour because I was not sure how we will handle the jungle since we have our 10 year old son. We had a great time!everything was beyond expected. Well organized, on time. Amazing experience! We are planning on going again but this time for the the longer trip. Looking forward.... Thank you Diego!!

There were many positives to this trip. During booking, I was so excited for the variety offered and for a great price too. The site also advertises bilingual guides. Granted, it can also be hard to book these trips online in Ecuador, so you'd have more options if you were physically standing in Baños (very close to Puyo). Positives: -A packed day- the guide kept us busy all day until we finished up around 6:30. -Variety- we got a bit of everything: feeding carnivorous fish, canoeing, indigenous village visit, 2 hour(ish) hike in the rainforest ending in a beautiful waterfall, great viewpoint, opportunity to try plants and insects inside the rainforest, making chocolate at a cocoa farm, etc. -The sights and views are incredible!! Negatives: -English level of the guide- luckily for the rest of my English-speaking group, I speak Spanish well and could talk whenever needed. This was pretty minor except for when we were voicing concerns/questions and the guide did not seem to understand. At the first visit of the day, the guide was telling us to hand food to the carnivorous fish, as opposed to tossing it. This caused my dad's hand to be bit a few inches up his fingers and drew a bit of blood. Next, we mentioned early in the day that the fish lunch would not work for a member of our group. Come lunch time, we repeated this concern to the surprise of our guide and were served only fish. We shared foods on our plates and it was fine, but I just don't understand this miscommunication. -Lack of preparation- No band-aides or medkit in sight after the fish bite. Given iodine and a bandage by the owner of the fish farm, but no effort on the part of the company to find a pharmacy or take other steps. Rubber boots are given to visitors to wear primarily during your hike in the amazon trail. I wrote in to the guide beforehand with all our sizes and found that my shoe size is larger than they have (I'm a 12 in the US and a 46 here). Rather than communicating this and working out another option, the guide simply brought me no boots. There was another option for boots closer to the amazon trail, but a bit below my size and with small holes for water to enter. I was struggling to enjoy the events with crushed toes and soggy feet most of the day. -Lack of communication- Some things left a bad taste in my mouth because of how easily they could have been fixed. There's so much potential. However, we simply felt left out of the loop even though we were alone with our guide all day. For example, changing out of my boots hours earlier, unnecessarily lugging our bags around when we could have left them until later, expressing what was included in the lunch only after finishing eating, etc. All-in-all a good day. I would recommend this trip to Spanish speakers and especially people living in the area. The sights are really cool, but I just don't feel like this is something I would recommend to my own english-speaking friends and family from outside of the country.

This was a spectacular experience - an authentic and personal adventure led by our indigenous guide, Nantu. My wife, daughter, and I were ushered into a truly exotic and unique world, without a trace of the generic blandness that can accompany a conventional tourist-oriented endeavor. We felt that this particular experience was created just for us, and at every step of the way, Nantu was informative, compelling, instructive, and genuine - with a healthy dose of humor and perspective as well. I would highly recommend this company, and if you can enlist Nantu as your guide, you're in for a real treat.
