Laguna Azul - Tena, Ecuador
People talk a lot about Laguna Azul in Tena, Ecuador. Although, the lagoons aren't blue. The "laguna" is actually a series of natural pools formed by a tributary of the Jatunyacu River.
The only way to get to the Laguna Azul is by taxi or driving yourself. The lagoons are located about half an hour outside of Tena beyond the towns of Pano and Talag. There are buses to these towns, but the lagoons are still quite farther out. Many tour companies offer jungle tours that include this spot and others in the area have to cross to get to the upper lagoons with a nice little bridge.
The water is crystal clear. It flows over a waterfall and into the Jatunyacu River below. This is a beautiful place but this waterfall is dangerous. It is not a water-slide! There is a rope across the lagoon to grab onto if you start floating in the wrong direction, but the current isn't really strong. I recommend visiting La Laguna Azul because its water is really cold and clear, and the jungle surrounding them is beautiful.

There are multiple pools and beaches along the river where you can get a nice refreshment from the heat. Its best during the week (I was completely alone there) On the weekends it is usually quite crowded.

Crystal clear water from a pristine jungle stream, three or four pools, each a little further into the jungle. simply awesome! And the pool at the entrance provides the chance for a three or four meter leap. It is run by the local Kichwa community and they also serve local - chicken or Tilapia Miato (both cooked inside a large leaf) - about 4-5$ and cold cerveza. In the morning you can catch a bit more sun, as it sets behind the adjacent mountains.

Dont know about you guys but if I go to the jungle, I expect some nature and me time, this did not happen on Laguna Azul. Went on a weekend and it got busy in there. None the less it makes up with other stuff, here you can eat grilled or not CHONTACUROS or bark worms and other local delicacies. Very common food for locals this worm turned out to be a really fat treat. An interesting experience. I would recommend this place if you go (as I did) with elderly people who were not able to hike.

laguna azul is a very nice place for swimming, however, i wouldn't recommend going there on weekends because it gets super busy. there are buses going there directly from tena or talag. the problem is that there are only to or three buses back to town every day so i would recommend organizing a taxi back to town or checking the bus schedule in advance.

Awesome place to cool down on hot day. The place has multiple pools with crystal clear water, some of them are guarded by a lifeguard. Some of the pools offer places to jump in or a rope to swing. Facilities (bathrooms, showers, changing rooms) are well maintained.
Take a taxi from Tena ($15), entrance fee is $3 per person.

Beautifuly situated at Jatunyaky river with nice pools to swim and some places to eat and drink. Almost no people when we were there but I understand that it can become extremely busy in weekends and holidays.

Water is really beautiful. Super clear and fun to play in the river. Don't stay in the lower pools as they tend to have more people. Walk over to the higher up pools where there'll be less people and you'll also find a place to jump into the river from about 9-12 feet.
