There was a sign at Shirogane Falls on the right just before entering the village of Ofuyu (after passing through the tunnel).
This whole area is located on steep cliffs and the roads were underdeveloped, making it extremely difficult to access, so it was called an isolated island on land.

国道231号線沿いにある岬です。国道231号線が全線開通するまでは、以前は陸の孤島と言われていました。今でも観光ルートから外れているので、孤島感が少し味わえます。

3月上旬に行ってきました。低気圧の通過で石狩から雄冬にかけては高波で通行止めだったのですが、朝になって通行止めが解除されたので出かけてみました。
吹雪と高波。立ち寄るところは皆冬季休業。
左側に灰色の荒れる海。海から吹き付ける強い風で取られるハンドル。重く湿気った雪でタイヤも取られ、安定して走らない車。
しかし、これが求めていた風景。求めていた体験。荒れた波が岩をたたき、飛び上がる波。まっすぐ走らない車。
やっと探した温泉も冬季休業。車を回転させようと取り付け道路に回すと、まさかのスタック。地元の方への協力を仰ごうかと考えたのですが、天気の悪い中声をかけるのもはばかられ、小一時間ひとりで努力をしていたら何とか脱出。
それを近くのおばさんが眺めており、声をかけていただきました。どこから来た、どこへゆく、の会話から、どうしてここに来たまで。そのおばさんも暴風雪の中２日間家から出ていないそうです。
思いがけない地元の方との交流、なかなかできない体験でした。
増毛まで出て、古くからの食堂「志満川」で昼食。「国希」の蔵本の見学をしました。男二人旅、何が気に入られたのか、立入禁止の奥にまで通され説明を受けることができました。
その後、温泉に行き、地元の方との世間話。旅はこれがたまらない！
温泉の後は増毛の街に戻り、パン屋さん「スカンピン」でパンを買い、先の車の脱出時に折れたスコップをその隣の金物屋「北鐘興産」で買いました。そして、中華まんが有名な「中村屋」にも行きましたが、目当ての中華まんは売り切れでしたが、ほぼ、同じ材料のどら焼きを買う事ができました。
その後、留萌経由で高速で帰り、一日（以上）の行楽が終わりました。
道中、吹雪、高速道路の通行止めなどトラブルがあり、計画通りのドライブではありませんでした。トラブルに遭ってもフレキシブルに対応でき、かつ、なるべくなら自力で解決できる方が行くとよろしいでしょう。

断崖絶壁の環境に位置する雄冬岬は石狩と増毛の間にあります。車が普通に通れるようになったのは最近のことで岬の両側は長大トンネルで繋がっています。雄冬岬には駐車場があり目の前に白銀の滝もあります

オロロンラインの中でも屈指の断崖絶壁です．国道自体は連続したトンネルで通過しますのであまり意識することはありません．

石狩市浜益地区から北に車で２０分くらい
走ると、白銀の滝とこの岬の看板があります。
駐車スペースとトイレもあり、日本海を一望
できます。おとずれたのは冬でしたので、
日本海は曇っておりましたが、海が荒々しく、
迫力のある景観でした。

留萌本線の留萌駅から終着の増毛駅までが廃線になるとの事で、俄か観光客が増毛駅に大勢押し掛けていますが、私は増毛駅前から沿岸バスで40分の、雄冬岬まで出かける目的で行ってきました。映画『駅STATION』主演・高倉健では、健さんの生れ故郷を、その昔は北海道三大秘岬（室蘭の地球岬と根室の落石岬）のひとつになっていて、石狩側からも増毛側からも道路がなく、船でしか行く事が出来なかった『陸の孤島』の雄冬岬に設定し、岬で息子の帰りを待ちわびる老母に北林谷栄さんを起用して、厳しい北海道の冬を荒々しく描写していました。増毛駅前を午前11時19分に出たバスは正午には雄冬岬に到着し、10分後の午後0時10分に増毛に向かって戻ります。そのバスを逃せば夕方までバス便はなし。慌ただしくとんぼ返りで増毛に戻ってきました。今は亡き名優の高倉健さん、北林谷栄さんを偲んで…。

周囲を断崖絶壁の山に囲まれていて、国道231号線を走っていると、たどり着くまでいくつものトンネルを越えていきます。昭和50年代中頃まで船でしか行くことのできない陸の孤島でした。地形的にも国道の開通は相当な難工事だったそうです。お陰で今は車でいくことが出来ましたが。絶景を見渡せる展望台があります。

国道２３１号線沿いにある岬です。半島状のように海に突き出ている訳ではありませんので気をつけないと通り過ぎてしまうほどです。岬には立派な石碑が建っています。かつては陸の孤島で増毛から船でしかいくことの出来なかった地とのことですが、周囲の絶壁をみれば納得出来ます。

さすが陸の孤島です。
展望台に登ってみましたが、あまりの絶景に足がすくみました。
普通の展望台では、体験出来ない感覚です！！
