After deciding to go off the beaten track and add a little adventure to our Japan trip this Summer, we discovered 'Mountain Life Hida'. Rocky is a talented mountaineer who took us canyoning and, surprise, Rocky is not only fluent in English but also French! All the equipment provided was state-of-the-art and absolutely up to par with safety standards and the half day trip was a welcome break during our trip. Rocky went even out of his way to recommend us a small local restaurant where we ate the most delicious grilled river trout! Rocky and his assistants offer a variety of activities, on different skill levels, so check out his website and book ahead.

We had such an amazing time at the Ninja Forest two years in a row. Our kids, 7 and 9 years old, love this place, and it is fun for adults, too. Courses were well designed and built, and each obstacle was increasingly challenging. We also loved its beautiful scenery, friendly and diverse guides, and great adrenaline rush! We highly recommend this place and will be back again.

Hida Mountain LIfe offers great opportunities to experience physical challenge and adventure in what must be one of, if not the most beautiful mountain settings in Japan. Our family of four went canyoning with Rocky who speaks great English and is a fun and totally dependable guide. We rated our experience ten out of ten.

This place is situated in very beautiful small village between mountains. Not so far from Nagoya or Gifu and you can try various things there. If you want to taste real Japanese culture or learn how to prepare traditional food you can try cooking session. It´s not like normal cooking class because you will be part of family. Just you and them and if you don´t speak Japanese there will be somebody to translate of course. If you like fishing, there´s famous method called tenkara and you can try it. Do you like adventure? Great, because in that case Mountain life Hida is right place for you. You can try "Mori no ninja", rope course in a forest. There is plenty of obstacles so you can enjoy it there for couple of hours. I guarantee you won´t be bored. Do you want more? Ok, so let´s try waterfall climbing. Especially during hot summer it´s great way how to escape and have fun. Experienced instructor will lead you deep into mountains. Along the way you can swim or jump from the waterfalls. And you can end your day in a nearby hot spring. I can highly recommend this place. People there are so nice, and owner can speak very good English and propably even better French.

I stay in the city (Singapore) hence I never really have a chance to experience nature for itself in the country side. Ninja Forest is hidden somewhere deep inside the forest. :) So far there is a total of 26 rope course but 50 is the ultimate goal isn't it rocky?! What I like about this course is, there is many way around it. Second, there is a few pleasant surprise along the way. Third, it was hell a lot of fun! Good for both family and children. I participated in the Japanese country side cooking program too. It was an unforgettable experience. Both couple (Yoshinaga san) are very kind and friendly. They show us around their traditional house with over 100years of experience (rocky correct me if i'm wrong) with even a traditional fire place for cooking! IA lot of care are make to make sure the food and the visual looks awesome! Instruction is very easy to follow and rocky is there as the translator too. so no worries. =) Oh and.... you can do language exchange with people over there! They might be shy at first but they warm up to you after a while. Do visit and contact rocky on their facebook page for more details!

Shirley, thanks for coming over and staying with us. Our rope course is tiny compared to what you have in Singapore, for sure, but it is different that it is located in the nature and that we continue to build by ourselves, so our preferences are strongly reflected and obviously you have a flavor for adventure! I am glad that you liked the cooking program too. Next time you come, you try other dishes so that eventually you will be able to cook Japanese food back home!
