A most attractive hill top town on the main railway line between Pisa and Florence. There is a free bus every few minutes from the railway station to San Miniato Alto, but there also appeared to be ample, easy parking. A small easily walkable town, it is off the beaten track as far as tourists are concerned, and prices are correspondingly lower. But it is well worth a day or even just part of a day, since there is plenty to see and the place has a long history. There is an Information office on the main square but local students have done a stunning job producing an App, from which you can scan details of the main attractions, such as the Rocca di Frederico II, the Palazzo del Seminario in the P.za della Republic and many more. Last year I visited and reviewed San Gimignano, which I found overcrowded and expensive. Of similar size, this is a far better alternative if you are in the area.

It was all worth the trip from Pisa to visit this historical centre which lies midway between Florence and Pisa. It is a quiet place - on top of a hill - the views it offers are magnificent.

This is not a town overwhelmed by tourists . We arrived near the top by lift from the car park .there was a lovely old church with a little church with a church museum .i loved the paintings in the church museum and there is a tower. My husband enjoyed the tower but as the last part has iron steps you see through i didn't make the last part as for some reason i become afraid of heights when i can see through the steps . The lady called the people who run the taller tower and apparently the steps are wooden but by then we were a little tired ,please note entry to the attractions we visited were FREE for the over 65 s , i found the people so friendly ,i can not comment on restaurants as they did not open while we were there, we found a lovely small caffe with local prices and pastries, this is not siena nor pisa but if in the area worth a couple of hours

It didn't take long to walk up to the Tower the view is worth the walk. Car park in the centre €1 for an hour. Two hours max needed to walk up and stop for coffee with a view. Further car park available down the hill which we didn't find until leaving on the direction of Firenze

Had a spare afternoon so visited San Miniato. Really off the tourist route as there were very few there, mostly locals. Worth a visit if you are passing and want to spend a couple of hours, but not worth a trip specific to see it.

Small picturesque Tuscany town on a hill. Perfect panoramas around. Poor parking space. Somewhere else to be a No. 1 tourist attraction. In Tuscany - one of hundred. But anyway, worth to see.

Founded in the 700's, with a history of German-Roman emperors, cross knights, pope administration and monastery. Through Minato, the route from northern Europe went to Rome. From the tower of the 11th century, you see the rolling Tuscan landscape as far as the eye reaches. Here wine, olives and vegetables are grown, and truffles grow under the ground.Definitely worth a stop on the trip between Pisa and Florence

We walked through this historic city and enjoyed the quiet after spending 4 days in heavily touristed florence. Very quaint city centre with many sites.
