The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta is at the centre of San Miniato and it a beautiful Cathedral with a highly decorative interior.

I got amazed by this church beauty. If anything is a must to see in San Miniato it is this church. I have been to many churches but this one is number one.

This was an unexpected highlight of our time in San Miniato. The church is so beautiful inside. This is what is great about Tuscany, you never know what you will come across.

If you are in San Miniato, of course you will see this and you will enjoy it. After you have seen many, many cathedrals and particularly the great ones, this may seem a bit mundane, but it is still a very pleasant place to sit and experience.

I can't say enough about the beauty of this relatively small cathedral. It looks relatively modest from outside...then you go inside and the angels will sing.

We visited San Miniato, and after hiking up the stairs to the top of the hill, we moseyed into the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta e di San Genesio and were quite surprised at how gorgeous it was inside. The cathederal marks a point on the via francigena.

The outside of this cathedral is quite plain and so when you open the door and go in you are quite unprepared for the beauty that greets you. We were lucky enough to arrive as an organist was composing a new piece. The ceiling is done in gold and is very impressive. There is a marble plaque to the 55 italians killed by a bomb at the church in 1944. I thought it particularly poignant that there were so many names from the same family.

We found this Church very charming. There had just been a wedding, and the Church was wonderfully decorated With flowers both inside and outside on the steps. The ceiling was very beautiful. I would recommend going inside if you're in town.

The cathedral of this small diocese has a brick façade embellished with some ceramic "bowls". The Bell Tower, called Matilde's Tower, was previously a watchtower. The interior was deeply restored in the 19th century and has three naves with baroque decorations. The beautiful golden coffered ceiling is very impressive. There is no shortage of sculpture and painting works, especially by local artist Duprè.
