It was nice to have another opportunity of visiting Cabo Sardao. I discovered this gem when I did the Rota Vicentina hike last year.

If you’re a bird photographer, you’ll enjoy taking pictures of the wood storks and their fledglings nestled atop cliffs. The rock formations and thundering waves bashing the rocks are a sight to behold.

Stunning place.

Some of the best views of the Vicentina Coast can be had from this cape. Next to the lighthhouse there is a parking space where you can leave the car and explore the cape area. Be sure to go up and down the coast around the cape - some of the best views are a bit north of the lighthhouse!

We just happened to visit Cabo Sardao on a whim and were we ever impressed. The town doesn't offer much in the way of amenities but just watching the ocean crashing onto the rocks is fabulous. Looks like they are doing a lot to keep tourist coming but also protecting the area. Most certainly worth a day visit.

Rough cliffs and storcks nests even in january. A trip worth doing, walk along above the cliffs but watch out on the edge!

You have got to seek this place out for four reasons. Firstly the cape itself with its rugged cliffs and coves. Secondly the lighthouse. Thirdly the all-pervasive sweet scent in the air which I believe was eucalyptus - this was possibly the sweetest smelling natural environment I've ever experienced. Fourthly, probably the most strangely located football pitch I've ever seen. It's right next to the lighthouse, boasts not a blade of grass, is clearly in use with home and away benches/huts and mesh to prevent the ball from heading towards the States. But all this begs the question, where do the players come from ?
Anyway it's all great and there's free parking and plenty of clearly marked paths to wander around. As others have said be careful though.

Breathtaking views here and all along the coastal path - The Fishermans Way - part of The Rota Vicentina. Be careful on the cliff path itself and research your route if you intent to walk it.
Also working lighthouse that has open days which are an insight into old and new, as well as the culture of rural maritime Portugal.
If you are in the area, a must see, just for the views, the fresh air and smell of the sea.

If you're a nature lover then you must visit Cabo Sardão. There are a few sight seeing spots. Athough there's a route along the cliffside, you can always find some new and interesting sites to photograph from but please be very carefull and use your common sense. Be careful with small children. Do not aproach the cliffside too much it's very dangerous.
There are a few parking spaces near the lighthouse. Go early in the morning.
If you have babies and you need a baby car, shift this visit to another time or You will not enjoy it. The walking route I mentioned before is not very baby car friendly.

We stopped by here, thinking we'd just pop out of the car and take a look. I returned to fetch my camera and binoculars! So much to see and nice walks, all along the cliffs in either direction from the lighthouse. We were lucky with the weather as we had clear skies and no wind. Spent a couple of hours walked the trial both directions. Took too many photos of the storks! Great fun!
