Arriving at The lighthouse's roundabout take The road on The rightside following The ocean .. From about 20 minutes walk you'll find a shipwrecked inside a Little bay crashed by The waves.. Really terrific .. You cannot MISS this in Vila Nova de Milfontes !

We visited here in search of a shipwreck we had read about (turns out we were looking in the wrong place anyway!) Instead of the shipwreck we found a great and very, very secluded beach. There is also a trail that takes in the clifftops with some lovely views of the coastline and massive waves hitting the beach. A big big downer however was when we returned to the car to find a window smashed and the car open. Luckily we didn't leave a single thing in the car so they didn't get anything. Apparently this is common, although I would highly recommend the beach and trail I would warn anyone off going. Unfortunately because this is a fair way outside of HS Milfontes its only accessible by car. The dirt track you park down near the beach is a prime target especially if you have a hire car.

BTW there is some sort of building work going on right now, possibly building a hotel/restaurant or something similar, if it does become a bit more populated it might make the location more secure.

If you like solitude don't go to the beaches just around Milfontes, there are plenty that are some way away and can be reached just by walking along the sea front. Very scenic and peaceful with few tourists it feels like a more authentic part of Portugal. Town is very nice and a little sleepy. We stayed here 4 days which I feel was enough time to do everything in the area. If you cross the large bridge over the rio mira from the north direction then just after the bridge you will see a small dirt road parallel with the main road, go straight, over the fence, and follow this dirt road around, after around 20 min first on the track and then path you will see the rio mira and fantstic views of the nature reserve.

This beach use to not be much crowded, due the access have to be by car and beside a camping (SITAVA) there's nothing around.
The sand area are wide and the sea use to have some waves, sometimes too strong to swim.

Beside the fact of access must be with car, there's plenty of room to park.

I had seen pictures of Praia do Malhao and wanted to see the stunning views. Is located on the way to Sines from Vila Nova de Milfontes. We had to access it by a dirt road and almost turned back because we weren't sure we were on the right road. Glad we kept going. It is pure, natural beauty!

No words can make justice to this pristine beach. No restaurants or bathrooms and that’s just fine. Bring a picnic and leave only footprints.

No restaurant, not crowded, beautiful beach, nice waves. Best beach in the area (if not in Portugal)

The road to this beach is in a deplorable state of disrepair. Such a shame as you worry what damage is being done to your vehicle.
Lots of money has obviously been spent on the massive car parks and lovely boardwalks. Surely money could be found to repair the road.
However, the beach is truly stunning and lots of nice walks /cycle tracks.
For such a large car parking area couldn't see any toilet facilities.

Stunning water and diverse population make your visit fulfilling.
Nothing to dislike except trying to find a parking space.
