    Elephant kisses
Oh my goodness! Dreams do come true. I have always loved elephants and to be able to walk with them and touch them was amazing. We took LOTS of photos. I got elephant kisses! James was our guide and I loved his enthusiasm and how animated he was.

    Entertainment and education
After a visit to a game reserve, we wanted to get up close to these marvelous animals. The park visit is everything we expected. It was clean. The staff were brilliant. We were given a tour by a man named Bond. Of course, he played on his name. He spoke very well and in an entertaining and educational manner. We learned more about the elephant. And then we were able to feed them and get up close. These are not circus animals but certainly trained. Well worth the couple of hours.

Ones in a lifetime experience with these gentle giants.
We had a great experience with these gentle giants and their caregivers. We fed the beautiful elephants with pellets and fruit that the caregivers provided. We had our time ( too little time in my opinion) to walk with them and to touch them all over the body. To feel their skin was amazing. And to get close eye contact with the amazing creature was ones in a lifetime experience. The elephants looks well taken care of and have a lot of space. Our guide TK was funny and educated us in a easy understandable way. The biggest downfall was that the groups are too big.

    Educational and enjoyable
We received a very educational experience. The four elephants in residence have been rescued from life-threatening situations in the wild. The staff emphasizes that they are still wild animals, and we were to follow very strict protocols while interacting with them. Our guide, James, was very engaging and informative. His presentation was highly interactive. As three retired adults, we were enriched by the experience.

    Awesome experience
Beautiful, humbling experience! The elephants are majestic and amazing. Our guide James’ passion & knowledge is infectious. Really enjoyed the afternoon learning and interacting. The coffee shop could do with a few snacks like muffins, biltong, nuts and not just liquids. So might be best to pack your own. Only an hour’s drive from JHB/PTA.

    Worth the visit!
An amazing experience with caring animal handlers. I love elephants and am not one for animals in captivity but these animals are taken care of due to various circumstances where they otherwise would likely have perished. TK and Connie were awesome, knowledgeable and professional. We had a very memorable outing. Thank you.

    Awesome experience!
We had an amazing time in both the monkey and elephant sancturaries!! The experience of feeding, walking with and getting kisses from the elephants was truly incredible. Our tour guides Sam (monkey guide) and TK (elephant guide) were very knowledgeable and engaging. We could tell that the elephant caretakers really love those 'gentle giants'. FYI-Must be able to walk on uneven terrain and hike uphill for the monkey sanctuary.

    Walking with Elephants
We did the early morning tour and can only describe it as a once in a lifetime experience. Fed and brushed the elephants followed by a short walk through the bush. The guides was attentive and made sure everyone felt included. The guide was knowledgeable and able to share information and answer any questions about their elephants!

Experience was good apart from huge-sized groups (too big).
But sadly they punish guests for honest booking mistakes. Contacted them one month in advance of arrival, and literally within minutes of making an online booking mistake (paid for 1 too many because under 4’s are supposed to go free). Tickets are not cheap for a single parent on a tight budget. But they refused to refund anything at all; even worse the lady “in charge” was not pleasant about it.
Please just beware of extremely harsh and unforgiving booking policies :(

It was my birthday as per their Facebook page and website you get a free Elephant interaction and monkey interaction I got dropped off by my husband with my toddler as he had work to do in the area , might I add he arranged his meetings in the harties area to accommodate me . Anyway the promotion says if it's your birthday you get free entrance so I was excited to take my toddler with me his 3 when I get to reception they rudly tell me sorry the promotion is only valid if there is another paying adult , no where do they state that. And I had not other paying adult with me I was so disappointed might I add a year ago my brother went for the same promotion and they never said there has to be another paying adult , suddenly it changed . It left a sour taste in my mouth Firstly because they are not clear with their communication on their website and secondly because of their treatment of me I wouldn't have minded paying full price for myself to go , but this is a matter if being transparent with customers I don't think it's right .

A lovely family visit to celebrate my husband 's birthday with my children (7 and 10).
Our phone charger was not working in the car so we arrived at the sanctuary with no cameras to take photos. This was a blessing in disguise, as the sanctuary offers a video service (R240) and they also accommodated us by taking photos on their phones. As we didn't need to worry about taking photos we enjoyed the experience much more by focusing on what we were there to do - to learn about elephants and interact with them. It was an amazing unforgettable experience and well worth the money. I felt privileged that the elephants allowed us to interact with them and touch their knees, feet. trunk, tusks etc. Beautiful gentle giants. The staff very passionate about the elephants. On the website there are a variety of packages to choe, and we chose the combined package of elephant interaction + the cableway trip up the magaliesberg mountain. This was a fun thing to do with the kids afterwards so would highly recommend.

Me and my partner visited both the elephant and monkey sanctuary whilst on holiday in SA and it was well worth the visit! We chose the “keeper for a day” joint package between the elephant and monkey sanctuary. This experience was so special, particularly the time spent bonding with the elephants. The staff are great and really do go out of their way to provide people with knowledge and understanding of these animals. Special shout out to the elephant keepers for being great. This was an unforgettable experience, spending time with the monkeys was also fantastic and our guide was also great😊 highly recommended.

Had a great day out at the elephant and monkey sanctuaries. It’s not cheap but well worth every cent as the animals are well cared for by enthusiastic and dedicated staff. You get to feed, walk with and stroke the elephants and the staff are more than happy to film you with your phone while you do it. So wonderful to see these beautiful creatures up close and know this place is working to rescue and rehabilitate them.

The monkeys sanctuary was also great and the same dedication is obvious in the staff here too.

Definitely a place to experience on any trip to the area!

James was an excellent speaker with fantastic presentation skills. Expected much more for the price paid. Paid an extra R250 for a very disappointing video, they advertise it like this: "Get a video with you and your family walking with the elephants through the forrest." What we actually got was a video with a large crowd of about 40 other people together with the elephants and not next to the elephant, incl in the video you paid for was everyone feeding and touching the elephant and a 4 second clip with yourself touching or feeding the elephants. Could have made a much better video myself. The place was clean, but I won't call it a sanctuary.

We visited on 04/04 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our only criticism was that the groups were too large (there were easily 30 people in the 8am experience) and our elephant experience was impacted by a very rude / big family who did not follow the guide’s instructions and they were disruptive throughout and acted entitled when they did not get their picture perfect poses. When we realised they were going to be on the monkey experience with us too, we asked the guide if there were different time slots we could attend, and he very kindly split the group into two groups.

We spent around 2 hours with these amazing animals, in a group setting. We walked trunk in hand with the elephants, got to see and touch them up close, feed them and we were even kissed by them.

The guides were so friendly and knowledgeable, we learnt a lot and feel so blessed that we had the opportunity to meet these amazing animals.

This will go down as one of the best experiences I have had in my life. 100% recommend, totally worth the money!

I was impressed. I brought a group here and everyone loved how well the elephants were treated and how much time they spent with us educating us on everything "elephant". Great visit, reasonably priced, I would certainly bring another group here.

The Elephant Sanctuary is my go-to-place when I entertain family and friends from overseas and I have visited it a number of times. The experience of interacting with these gentle giants and learning more about them never fails to be a highlight of any trip. Set in the beautiful Magaliesberg, the oldest mountain range in the world, the sanctuary more than lives up to its name. A must visit if you are in the area.
