The Monkey Sanctuary is one of several sanctuaries in a group of sanctuaries, including the elephant sanctuary that provides for orphaned and abused animals. Situated west of Hartbeesport Dam alongside the Elephant sanctuary it provides an environment where monkeys (primates) can be given their freedom in a natural environment. The sanctuary situated in one of the many Kloofs (Gorges) of the Magaliesberg mountain range provides the perfect environment for Monkeys from around the world.

Although it is a bit expensive for the nationals, like most tourist attractions these days, it is a good experience. Not much of interaction with monkeys, it's more like a game drive by foot unless some monkeys decide to interact with u and check your...More

This was my second visit to monkey sanctuary. On a hot summer day it is a special walk as you have raised wooden platforms and all under indigenous trees and shaded. So while temperatures were very high the day we visited it was a pleasant...More

A great experience if you are in the area - basically a guide-led tour along a raised wooden walkway in a large wooded area giving the chance to see groups of different apes - various lemurs; spider monkeys; squirrel monkeys and capuchins. The monkeys climb...More

Good morning Beth. The wooden walkways are all elevated and we have pieces where you walk on a rocky area. Unfortunately not wheelchair friendly.
