Chimanji temple is a nice place to relax and stroll. It is known by Ten cedar trees about 800 to 1,200 years old. It is not a convenient place for tourists because it does not have any bus service to the entrance of the temple. You may need a taxi and probably will have to pay extra for return charge. If you are bikers it would be a best bet but I am not sure if you can rent a cycle in Shimada. If there is an organized tour, if any, you may never miss the opportunity. Parking space is large enough for a tour bus but group tours may require advanced booking of parking space. (May better consult with tourist bureau in Shimada). All the buildings of the temple are thatch-roofed which gives the warm and relaxing atmosphere. Jupponsugi Hike, about one hour walking to the summit of Mt. Chiba, 496m in elevation, and visiting all of the ten huge cedar trees can be fun. Locating all of the ten cedar trees may not be easy unless you are well guided. Best season may be October thorugh April. Summertime climbing is not a good idea unless you are a birdwatcher. The temple area is often misty and have thundershowers so equip raingear when you get there.
