I’ve been there for the sunrise quite often. Yes you have to wake up around 5am, but you’ll never forget it.

Great scenery, and lot of hiking trails. Great for camping and picnics as well. They offer bicycle rentals too.

Stay at guest house tokiwa and got a free tour to this place to see Mt. Fuji during sunrise. It is nothing short of amazing.

We enjoyed a wonderful 90 minute walk around the lake stopping plenty of times to take pictures, watch the fishermen & enjoy a coffee in the hotel at the head of the lake.

I got the timetable from the tourist office (when we went no one spoke English) the bus station staff are very helpful. I seem to recall the last bus allowing you about a 30min stop at the falls left around 11am

I suggest you to stay here one day! From Ueno station will take almost 4hours to Tanuki Lake.

i`m not sure about that. Because most of the camper bring their own camp equipment. but if you don't wanna bring your own camp equipment, they provide some resort really near to the camp site to stay. 😉
