Nice place to visit with friends or family. We went on a tour so we got to see them making Sake and also had a tour of the building, the residence for the brewery owner back in the day (tour only available in Japanese but that didn't bother us as we can speak Japanese reasonably well) . The staff were very friendly and helpful and helped us understand the process and how the best grains are selected to make the best Sake. This area has won awards for the best Sake in Japan for the past 7 years because of the quality of the water. There is a spring at the front of the building where you can taste the water or fill up your water bottle. The old residence is also interesting as there is lots of artifacts to look at. They have a gift shop so you get some of the Sake to take home as well as some other local trinkets/food products.

Please, please don't bother to visit this brewery! Firstly, the 'not so impressive' 30 minutes tour is only in Japanese. Secondly, the staff is totally not nice to foreigners. We are regularly visitors to Japan and even speak a little Japanese. We have already visited sake breweries in other parts of Japan and had traveled all the way to Aizuwakamatsu, so therefore decided to join the tour in Japanese anyway. The staff member absolutely didn't appreciate it for us joining and after the tour only offered tasting to the Japanese. Only after we bought four bottles a little smile came. Very disappointing to be treated like that for the first time in Japan. Please visit other breweries where you will receive much better hospitality.

It looked promising at first based on the amount of its advertising all over town and lot of the original brewery being intact. The self guided area was pretty small and the hourly tours (only available in Japanese) didn’t seem to cover a lot of ground in there. Most of the building wasn’t much more than a souvenir shop.

It can be a dull experience if you don't speak Japanese well enough. They provide a leaflet in English but the guide seems to tell very long stories... There is not much to see but you can taste several different sake in the end of the tour. The tour is free.
