The shrine stands quietly, surrounded by the residential area of Ishioka City. It is said to have been founded in the mid-8th century and moved to its current location in the mid-10th century. The shrine is the head shrine of Hitachi Province, the former name of Ibaraki Prefecture, and is located right in the center of Ibaraki Prefecture on the map. The shrine has a long history and a very high status, but nowadays, its precincts are no different from those of an ordinary shrine in terms of size and atmosphere. You can visit the shrine in a relaxed atmosphere. However, as a place for strolling, it may be a bit lacking. In the precincts of the shrine, there is a large camphor tree as a sacred tree, but more than half of it was burnt down in a fire that spread in 1964. However, it is still there as a sacred tree. The strength of the tree's vitality can be witnessed.
