About
The Museum's aim is to preserve, conserve and disseminate the cultural heritage and tradition of Cephalonia, along with the elements that give evidence of the Ionian civilization, with the particularities of that social era, especially during the foreign occupations (1204-1864) as well as the portrayal of the island before the earthquakes of 1953.

Lovely little museum
Aug 2020
Always nice when you visit somewhere to learn a little of the history as well as just visit the tourist attractions. There is lots to see here for the modest entry fee of 4€ - the section with the photos of before, and the aftermath of, the 1953 earthquake was particularly fascinating. Well worth a visit on your tour of Argostoli.

Interesting museum

A good museum with a lot of interesting artefacts and fascinating historic photos of the town from before and after the earthquake. The information could have been presented in a more interactive way, but that should not stop you going to see what was still a useful source of information about the town.

Fascinating.....

If you wish to learn about the history of Kefalonia this is the place to go. Small but well-designed with plenty of exhibits, with most artefacts described in Greek and English, you will find something of interest. The earthquake of 1953 is well documented with plenty of photographs of the desolation of the island. There is an entrance fee if €4 per person but well worth it. Highly recommended.

Enriching tour tucked away in Argostoli

The Museum's aim is to preserve, conserve and disseminate the cultural heritage and tradition of Cephalonia. It has a good variety of artefacts such as lacemaking traditions, costumes and uniforms, products and photographs of folkloristic heritage and of the island before the terribly devastating earthquakes of 1953.

Though small, there is plenty for the visitor to take in (entrance fee for this private museum a reasonable 4 Euros) and really helps to add a lot of detail to the development of the island and in particular of Argostoli. The variety makes even a short visit rich in interest. Note that it does close earlier in the afternoon than some visitors may be used to.

Amazing collections and photographic documentaries

I didn't expect such a good collection in this tiny museum. You get the feeling of old Kefalonia and learn a lot about the history of the island. I was very moved by the photos showing the earthquake period as my ancestors lived through this difficult period. I wouldn't recommend though visiting with a child, as mine was running through the tiny rooms and it was difficult to get her not to touch anything and focus on the exhibits at the same time. A small gift shop with nice books available also.

Small but exquisite

This lovely little museum is located at the side of the library which is found just above the central square. It houses exhibits of island life and costumes as well as many photos of life before the earthquake in 1953. There is also a section dedicated to the rebuilding of the island. Make sure you don't miss this cultural gem.

Worth a visit

We popped in while there was a rain shower. It had a nice variety of items to look through, from old costumes to tools and historical photographs. If you like to get a taste of the local culture and history of the place you're visiting then I'd say this is well worth a visit.

A living proof that Cephalonia was a culture center for centuries.
Sep 2016
There is nothing more soothing than spending some time in the Corjialenios Historical Museum in a hot morning of July or August. The articles that constitute the museum are real evidence of the living standards of the people of Kefalonia at the times, 2, 3 or four centuries ago. There is finesse, style and civilization all over. Historical moments are more clearly presented that just reading a book and in afunny way they are closly related to almost everyone. The only thing that is missing out is the connection to the increadible times of Ulysses and the Homeric lay out of the caracter building that has set the western world into its values: courage, bravery, duty, beauty. All of this ranging between 1.100 to 1.200 years b.C. But, yet, in the library which is adjacent to the museum there will be surely some book that will put even this era into perspective. All and all, a very enjoyable visit.
