Kefalonia Island Tour

28 reviews
Commence a scenic island drive through olive groves, vineyards and thick cypress glades. Passing through the Mount Aenos you will visit the Robola Winery and taste the famous Robola variety of wine. Explore the Drogarati Caves, famous for their acoustics. Visit the geological phenomenon that is the Melissani Lake which is in an underground cave. Next, we go for lunch to the cosmopolitan village of Fiscardo, untouched after the great earthquake of 1953. Leaving Fiscardo you will head to the little fishing village of Assos, which gives the impression of being an island of its own. En route on our way back, you’ll make a photo stop at Myrtos Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

What you will see:
• Robola Winery – Visit inside, wine tasting
• Drogarati Cave – Visit inside
• Melissani Lake – Visit inside, boat ride
• Fiscardo Village – Lunch break (optional)
• Assos Village – Coffee stop
• Photo-stop at Myrtos beach

Nice beach with sunbeds and a good beach bar. This was about a 20/25 minute walk from where we were staying (at the wonderful Avithos Resort), and we did not hire a car, so only visited the once. Most days instead we went to the Ai Helis beach - see separate review. The sunbeds were €8/pair (seems standard in 2020) and the beach itself is quite narrow. This means there is not much beach that is not taken up by sunbeds. The beach itself is beautiful and sandy, but (at least on our visit) there was about 2 metres of fairly big pebbles in the surf to navigate before you got to more comfortable footing. The beach bar has a reasonable selection of snacks as well as drinks and the team there are friendly. Just up from the beach there are 2 restaurants that also serve food all day long - the OK Avithos Preview and the very good To Enetiko. If we had a car I am sure we would have been back again.

Yes, it was the most interesting thing on this beach. The real art happens here, unusuall thing.Sculptures are made of stones, small, bigger one. Another thing is this-turtles that laid their eggs on the beach, volunteers fence these places .It was atraction for us. We were on the left side of a big stone,we used our sunumbrella. It was windy day,so so windy, and the water was cool, little colder than the previous days.We stayed there about 2pm.Sun and wind all afternoon. You have there umbrellas, cafee on the beach(we did not use it,but you have it there ,just to know:) )

We stayed 7 to 14 September at the Avithos Beach Resort (Simpson Travel) just up from the beach. We swam at the beach twice a day. Perfect for safe swimming except there was a thin band of pebbles at the water’s edge which you had to step across if not wearing shoes. Great beach bar (though expensive) and sun beds and parasols were available for hire. There were two good tavernas close to the beach. Biggest thrill was the turtles hatching in the night and early morning and making their way down the beach to the water. I saw them on a couple of mornings when having my morning swim. Highly recommended.
