Before coming to Kefalonia, everywhere I looked said that the bus service is terrible and that I should hire a car or get taxis everywhere. I did hire a car for 4 days, but did not want to hire a car for the two weeks I was here, partly due to the cost and partly that I like to have a glass of wine or two in the evenings, so then could not drive home. I have found the buses, cheap reliable, helpful and almost better than taxis. We went to Zakynthos and took the bus from Argostili to Pessada to catch the ferry. It cost 1.80 Euros each, the bus was clean, air-conditioned and the driver very friendly. The bus left exactly at the time stated. A taxi would have cost at least 20 Euros. Also in the bus because you are up higher you get a much better view and as they are driving more slowly and more safely than taxis, so you can actually enjoy the view rather than hanging onto your seat as the taxi driver overtakes on a blind bend! If you are not in a rush, I would definitely recommend using KTEL buses when in Kefalonia.

I took a round trip from ARGO to SAMI and was glad I did. The bus is nice with comfortable seats. It allowed me to view the many pretty sights and not have to worry about the narrow roads, sharpe curves, or missing or confusing road signage.

With most routes to/from ARGO there(in october) was one trip out a day and one trip back. That allowed me to see the island, get off and wander SAMI and then get on the same bus to go back. At this time of year the frequency of the route was low. But that meant I had 4 hours to kill in SAMI before having to get back on the bus.

I would recommend taking a couple of bus trips to different far points on the island to get orientated and be able to enjoy seeing the sites along the way. The layout and topography of the island can be tricky do non-island drivers.

Buses between Lassi and Argo are more frequent.

We took a bus from Kefalonia to Athens. It was a long journey, including a ferry and a couple stops along the way, but it was comfortable. Very professional. Helpful. Good driving

Bus drivers friendly. Timetable is approximate partly because several stop are all under one heading (eg Lassi - I think there are 4 stops! Bus cannot be at all at the same time!) Bus leaves the bus station in Argostoli on the dot - but heavy traffic and Greek double parking can lead to some serious delays.

You can easily use this for your whole trip - forget renting a car. Many buses, friendly people answering the 238 questions you'll ask, low prices and they do everywhere you'll want to go.

The bus was supposed to arrive at 9:15. We waited until 9:00 until 9:40, and still no bus! Just as we crossed the road the bus came!! We waived and the driver saw us, but didn’t stop. DAFT!!!

Terrible for real they change the bus routines whenever they feel like it,I really hate it when they don't give us a warning at least so we can know what's up,I missed many day works cz of the bus routine and their audacity as well is just a terrible experience

The Argostoli to Lassi, which also is the airport bus route runs every 90 minutes from the port at the Lixouri ferry ⛴

Today is the last day of the first of two winter schedules..
One ends Oct 20th
One begins Oct 12th
Hmmmmmm

The website is divided into each section of Kefalonia, which is helpful. The summer and winter schedule are a bit ambiguous

Argostoli to Costa Costa beach is 1.80€ each way. The driver takes cash.

A good way to travel as a taxi is 7€ each way!
