If you’re staying in the city and needing an escape then this beach is pretty good. Get the train from Cais de Sodre, takes about 25-30 mins then a 10-25 mins walk. The beach is pretty long and there are quite a few places to eat/drink and loads of loungers with parasols, we paid €25 for 2 plus parasol.

We got the train and walked slowly for 10 mins to the beach due to little feet. It was a lovely long beach, clear water, v cold water! We rented an umbrella and sunbeds for €17 all day. We bought food, got lots for how much we paid, but not the healthiest.. still captive audience..
Lots of young families, couples and friends.
There was surfing lessons going on if you wanted.
Lifeguards on duty
Very safe, clean and welcoming.
The only down side was finding about a train strike on return journey.. overcrowded trains.. still a better journey than if that was a UK strike..

Carcavelos is a top beach just outside Lisbon. Very easy access (lots of car parking, train station nearby), ton of facilities (including bars and restaurants, restrooms, showers, sports facilities, shopping), makes this beach feel quite "urban". Very good visit all year round, either to sunbathe or swim over the Summer or a meal and a walk on a sunny day over the the Winter!

This beach is huge! Options abound here as well with multiple food, restroom and showering locations (though some require a little $). It is a bit less convenient than many other beaches though as it’s a little longer ride from Lisbon and about a 10 minute walk from the Carcavelos train station but at least it’s on a tree-lined street, especially after a long hot day at the beach. The sand is great but the water line can be pretty rough at times as this is one of the beaches on this stretch with the best waves for surfing. On most weekend days, you will see multiple local surf schools working with a dozen or so students each. If you're looking to try out surfing for the first time, this would be a good option. A lot of activity and tons of space for sports of all kinds on the beach as well.

The town is lovely but the beach is small. The day we were there the waves were too rough with lots of seaweed. We went to Praia Angrinha (first two photos) instead, Ferraguda. Very quiet, easy parking and walk to calm waters.

I was in Lisbon, Portugal for a few days with a friend and we thought it would be nice to hit the beach since the weather was absolutely wonderful.
We asked the front desk staff at our hotel and they recommended this beach to us and told us how to get there. We took the underground subway and got to the another above ground train station where there are many trains.
We bought the tickets and got into a crammed train and had to stand all the way and it takes about 45 minutes - 1 hour to get to this beach.
There are multiple other beach in this train route and basically you can get off at any station and there will be a beach.
This beach had a good vibe and it was crowded and the sand and water color was beautiful. Lots of options close by to enjoy a beer a well.
Overall highly recommended!

It's very easy to reach this place by train from Lisbon, and the station is just a short walk away...the beach itself is wide and sandy, plenty of space for everyone, and a nice bonus, there's also free WiFi here!

Wide, sandy beach close to lisbon city centre. You can reach Carcavelos beach by tram, heading from Cais do Sodre station. Journey takes around 20 min and it’s comfortable. You can find a lot of restaurants and bars close to the beach. Must see!!!:)

Very cozy beach with a lot of bars and services, of course good also for surfing. A lot of young people enjoying the sun. About 30/40 mins from
Lisbon city centre I advise to go there for a break also while visiting the city, half day there is nice. If you don’t want to use public transport with Uber is about 20€ not bad

There's always an attendant and if you can't identify her/him, choose a bed and they'll soon find you!

Are dogs allowed on this beach?

I strongly doubt it I have not seen any dog there, and I remember few posters. People walk small dogs on pedestrian pavement but not on beach.
Saying that it’s a lot of kids and families.
And dogs in Portugal are not as friendly as in U.K.
Hope it helped

@kmpinkzoo People are very nice and I honestly don't think that anybody would take your things. Also, you can ask the person next to you to keep an eye on your things, again because everybody is super nice and friendly..
Hallo,

There's Surf, windsurf, paddle surfing, a beach volleyball pitch (free) and plenty of sand!
I did a bit of surfing with my son for 25 euros each (4 hours).
Not sure about wind or kitesurfing.
