Wrangell Mountain Air is based at McCarthy in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. We offer day trips and 3 scheduled flight daily from Chitina (at the end of the paved road) to McCarthy-Kennicott, flightseeing tours in the best of Wrangell-St. Elias and fly-in backpacking, basecamping and rafting. There are a range of accomodations and activities available at McCarthy-Kennicott so plan on spending a day or two to enjoy the feel of remote Alaskan towns.

Austin is a great pilot. It was truly incredible to see Wrangells-St Elias from that perspective. We took Austin's advice and spent the evening exploring the glacier on foot to contrast what we had seen by air. Thank you all for a fantastic and memorable...More

We were staying at the Kennecott Glacier Lodge and decided the afternoon before that we should take a flight tour. We had taken a flight tour over Mt Denali and glacier landing on a very clear day two years prior and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure....More

Very happy that I made the decision to fly from Chitina to McCarthy rather than drive the McCarthy Road. Customer service was terrific with both reserving the flight and the pilots flying me to/from McCarthy. I was very lucky to be able to sit in...More

My wife and I included McCarthy on a recent Alaska trip, since the McCarthy road is one of only two roads that actually lead into the park. We scheduled a late mornign flightseeing trip with Wrangell Mountain Air (known locally as WMA) before our visit...More

Glaciers 20 miles long, flying with huge jutting peaks overhead...a bucket list experience. McCarthy is a very quaint old mining town. Just don't get stuck 100ft down a sinkhole on the glacier with a broken crampon.
