Went here with some friends and my mother, we had a great time lathering up in the mud. Make sure to put it all over your body and let it sit for a while. The cold plunge isn't icy but cold enough to cool you...More

We were here in January - attracted by the thought of being able to cover ourselves in lovely mud and then while away a couple of hours... Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the experience one bit. No indoor changing area - you're literally under a canvas...More

It was all very interesting and pretty amazing really! Not geysers and all like Yellowstone, but had it’s own unique and riveting aspects to it. It takes a relatively short time to get through as well, though you can take your time if you like....More

We did the walk, mud spa and hot spring - and it was a great combo! The walk was very interesting and educational - and the mud and spa were definitely an interesting experience.

Went back the second time in just over a year and well worth the experience - this has got to be THE best of Rotorua's thermal attractions. The raw power of nature can be seen at it's best.....highly recommended !

As this site is a little way outside of Rotorua it doesn't get so many visitors as the thermal sites nearer the town. You walk through a fascinating area of boiling mud pools, thermal pools and even a warm water waterfall. Each attraction is clearly...More

You can let your inner child out at this place. We did the self-guided walk through the geo-thermal park with its bubbling mud pits and its white sulphuric cliffs and lakes. There is even an area of forest that is covered in sulphuric "saffron" on...More

The first thing I've to say is that the place really smells. It smells with sulfur, and that's the reason why you decide to come to this place. You have a choice of multiple options. Either you can just look at this place and it's...More

This very impressive park is great fun to do, and the sulphuric smell is for free. Lots of activity in the large pool and mud baths along the way. The signs along the way give information on how hot a certain pool is, and what...More

We went too late to do the thermal springs and just had the mud baths. Bit of a shock to be told only 20 minutes in the mud bath itself, even though it was far from busy. After the mud you have a shower (its...More

Hi TA mates, I'm looking to book a geothermal walk, mud bath and sulphur spa combo at Hell's Gate. I understand you can do the walk self-guided or with a guide (runs twice a day?). Can anyone advise which option might be best? And does the guided walk cost more/available in the combo package? I'm thinking the guided option might be very crowded and impersonal in November so may be best to take the self-guided option to avoid large crowds? The visit would be in November. Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Also we will be driving down from Pokeno (south of Auckland) that day so thinking it best to detour around Lake Rotorua to Hell's Gate before entering Rotorua for the night (with a motorhome). Would that be the most practical (assuming road north around Lake Rotorua is suitable for motorhomes?). Please forgive me if these are stupid questions - I've not visited Rotorua before:) CHeers, LIsa.
