Saltcoats is a great wee place lovely sandy beach for children and dog to play, smashing views to Arran also good for cycling. Would recommend Oscars for food Cavannis and Avanti proper Italian cafes great meals and good price proper coffee.Cavanni also caters a Gluten Free menu which is hard to find.35/40 by train from Glasgow.

Been to Saltcoats many times to look at the fascinating geology in the rocks around the harbour which are easily accessible. The views out to sea are spectacular with not only Arran clearly visible but the Paps of Jura just north of the island when conditions are just right. There is free parking by the promenade and very important for me freely accessible public toilets.
There is a fine walk from one end of the promenade to the other and also a very pleasant Main Street in the town.
Definitely a good place for a day trip on a bright breezy day at any time of the year.

In between appointments today visited this beach instead of Ardrossan. Had a gentle stroll in chilly but sunny weather and it was quiet with everyone keeping 2m apart. Similar views as Ardrossan with Paddy's milestane looking good in the distance

I hate to be negative but after many years of absence from this place of my childhood, i found the place utterly depressing. Curiosity made me take the short train trip after visits last week to Largs and Troon. I tried Wikipedia for information as to the original purpose of these grey drab concrete installations on the seafront. There is what could be a magnificent beach running all along the shoreline to Ardrossan which is equally as drab.
The whole front looks like a WW2 D-Day practice area. The town is also very run down. Beach and town were very quiet. Cant imagine why anyone would want to holiday here anymore.Historically, the town is famous for 3 things. Salt panning, thus the name. 18th Century shipbuilding and more recently , well 60 years ago, Bobby Lennox, Scottish Footballer and Lisbon lion extraordinaire.
Ok it was a dull day but even sunshine would not have made much of an improvement. Badly needs a complete seafront facelift but i suppose funds,in this mess we are in, are the problem. Saviour of the day was Oscars, an upmarket seafront Bistro well worth a visit.
Sorry Saltcoats, but you are indeed a sorry Saltcoats 😟

On a road trip around the North East and West coastline one of the highlights was the views from Saltcoats Beach looking over to the Isle of Arran -stunning in the evening sundown.

Saltcoates beach is a great beach to relax in the sun “when we get it” and plenty of space for children to run around. The beach is clean and well kept, all visitors should try and keep it this way.
This beach is a favorite holiday place for Glasweigians but also liked for people from further afield.
There are some good places to eat in Saltcoates and Oscar’s restaurant is next to the beach.
In the school holiday period the beach is very busy full of families enjoying the seaside, dogs are also allowed on the beach, dog owners must be sure to clean up any mess after them.

Without a doubt this is a great stretch of beach. Lovely views of the Clyde and across to Arran. There are a number of bars and Restraunt’s Local to the beach . All in all it’s well kept and very nice.
